"The pattern is so obvious"- Internet divided over NewJeans' reported letter to ADOR allegedly threatening contract termination over unmet demands

On November 13, 2024, Yonhap News reported that ADOR's rookie girl group, NewJeans, sent a certified letter to ADOR and HYBE, allegedly threatening contract termination. The letter was reportedly signed by all NewJeans members: Kim Min-ji, Hanni Pham, Marsh Danielle, Kang Hae-rin, and Lee Hye-in.

In the letter, the group reportedly stated that if the label didn't fulfill their demands within 14 days of receiving it, they would allegedly terminate their contract with ADOR and HYBE. They reportedly wrote:

"If you do not accept our request for corrective action, we will terminate your exclusive contract."

Yonhap News also reported that The demands mentioned by them weren't disclosed. Netizens speculated that the ongoing feud between HYBE and the former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin could be one of the reasons. Earlier, on September 11, 2024, the girl group demanded re-appointing Min Hee-jin as ADOR's CEO by September 25 on their YouTube livestream.

However, ADOR's board of directors rejected their demand. Later, on October 17, they re-appointed her as the HYBE subsidiary label's inside director; however, they stated that re-appointing her as the CEO was out of the question. Internet users speculated that this could be another "pattern" or a media stunt for NewJeans' next release.

One fan wrote:

Several online users said the "drama" needs to end, as the feud has been going on since April 2024.

"O plz go, we wont mind! Lets end up this drama! Everyday we dont have to see these irritating things!" one fan said.

""Will Terminate Exclusive Contract if Demands for Correction Are Not Accepted" Promise?" another fan wrote.

"So they have bring up the "T" word at last." one other fan said.

Fans expressed concern, with one urging HYBE to respond firmly to escalating threats.

"It seems the real fight is about to begin. The level of threats has crossed the line. HYBE must take a firm stance and respond strongly." another fan added.

"Well saying you do not want using the term new they gave a new explanation to it. Please pay the penalty and leave." another fan wrote.

"We have not yet received the certified letter"- ADOR issues statement on NewJeans's letter

On November 13, 2024, JoyNews24 reported that NewJeans' label, ADOR (under HYBE), stated that they are yet to receive the letter. They added that they would respond once they received it and checked its content.

"We have not yet received the certified letter. We have not yet received the certified mail that NewsJeans said they sent, so we cannot respond to the undelivered certified mail."

According to The Korea Times, in August 2024, ADOR fired Min Hee-jin and appointed Kim Joo-young as the new CEO. Min Hee-jin's dismissal arrived after HYBE accused her of alleged company takeover and breach of contract. The parent company, HYBE, also filed a criminal lawsuit against her as she allegedly tried to crash HYBE stocks in the market after conspiring with a foreign investor.

After being fired in August 2024, she was re-hired as the inside director to solely supervise NewJeans' production for the next three years. However, Min Hee-jin filed another injunction in court to get control of ADOR, which the court rejected on October 29, 2024.
