BTS' Jin's upcoming appearance on MBC's Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island (aka It's a Good Thing to Rest Well), is garnering attention for his friendly bond with the show's host, CEO Ahn Jung-hwan.
Participating as an island worker at a 0.5-star rated hotel, Jin has captured the heart of Ahn Jung-hwan on the show, as reported by Ilgan Sports on August 17. The pre-release video launched on August 16 showcases the BTS idol on a fishing vessel alongside the cast - CEO Ahn Jung-hwan, B1A4 Sandeul, Kim Nam-il, and chef Lee Yeon-bok and Lee Hong-woon.
Amidst constant rainfall, Jin and Sandeul sang Namhaengyeolcha (남행열차), and Ahn Jung-hwan and the others cheered them on. Per Ilgan Sports, while on the boat, the latter even stated to the BTS member at some point,
"The only people who do this are my wife and you."
Fellow cast member Kim Nam-il stated in mock jealousy at the duo's close friendship,
"It's different from what you did to me."
Apart from the main cast toiling away on the uninhabited island, a team will watch the goings-on from the studio and talk to the workers. This team includes Korean rapper-singer Boom, newscaster Kim Dae-ho, and comedian and MC Park Myung-soo.
Meanwhile, the latest episode of Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island featuring BTS' eldest will air on August 19, 2024, at 9 PM KST. Viewers can also watch it on Apple TV and Wavve.
BTS' Jin faces a hard time adjusting to the smell of mackerel on Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island
MBC's variety show Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island (푹 쉬면 다행이야) stars former soccer player and TV figure Ahn Jung-hwan as the "CEO/Village Chief", who has to transform a deserted house on an abandoned island into a full-fledged, working hotel. Rated 0.5-star, the renovated hotel then invites guests and serves them seafood and a getaway to a nature-rich location.
Working with no water and electricity, the staff strives to deliver a 5-star experience in a 0.5-star setting. BTS' Jin's appearance on the show as an island worker was reported on July 1 by STARNEWS. MBC later confirmed the same, stating a broadcast date was yet to be fixed.
According to Ilgan Sports, Jin reportedly trains "CEO Ahn" in a turn of events, as the latter is known for giving orders on the show. As Ahn Jung-hwan is to receive Jin's orders, workers on the abandoned island and those watching the show from the studio are awestruck. They even say,
"A worker who catches Ahn Jung-hwan has appeared."
For the new episode, the singer heads out to a deserted island with his friend B1A4's Sandeul. While fishing, he is hoping to score a big catch and sing Super Tuna in anticipation. However, no sooner does he walk into the hotel than CEO Ahn informs the crew of the hard work that awaits them, telling Jin and Sandeul,
"Everyone is equal on the island."
As he makes them place bait in eel traps, it further raises curiosity about how the BTS vocalist and the B1A4 member will react to the smell of mackerel bait, which even the locals are reluctant to touch. Viewers are also intrigued to find out if they will be able to safely put the bait, as it is a fresh experience for them.
Other pre-released teasers show Jin rowing a boat with the cast as CEO Ahn plays a joke on him by leaving him stranded on a boulder. Other teasers show him handling bamboo sticks and diving for fish under Ahn Jung-hwan's guidance.
When he hurts his hand while driving a nail through a bamboo stick, CEO Ahn helps him mend the wound, as the captions humorously term Jin a "sloppy worker."
Meanwhile, the latest teaser shows Jin playing rock-paper-scissors with his fellow cast members and losing the game, having to deal with mackerels on his own. As he has a hard time adjusting to the fish's smell, Sandeul offers to rub some fish scent under his nose to acquaint him with it.
While the K-pop phenomenon cries out in frustration at the smell of mackerel, Sandeul runs around laughing. CEO Ahn says,
"It lasts two days, haha."
The scene then shifts to Jin, washing off the scent with water. Fans wait to see how the idol delivers his role as an island worker in the show.
In other news, BTS' Jin was named the Global Brand Ambassador for Gucci on August 7. Pictures from his recent collaboration with Harper's Bazaar x Gucci for the upcoming September issue of the magazine are going viral among fans.
