"They performed very well" — Fans react as Serendipity’s Embrace ranks No. 1 in viewership on Rakuten Viki's charts in 125 countries

Serendipity’s Embrace, starring Kim So-hyun and Chae Jong-hyeop, made a record after clinching the no. 1 spot in viewership on the Rakuten Viki chart across 125 countries. According to the report by Soompi, the latest K-drama's finale aired during its fourth week of broadcast, topping the viewership chart.

Specifically, Serendipity’s Embrace topped the charts for four weeks straight, in 68 nations, including Canada, Mexico, France, and more. It is important to note that Rakuten Viki is one of the top video streaming services for Asian dramas including Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, and more.

Viewers were happy to see Serendipity’s Embrace get its due recognition. One X user wrote,

"I already expected this outcome. Just like MLL before. congrats SE team! I'm happy that even tho the drama wasn't being aired in a bigger platform like N and has fewer eps, but they performed very well in their OTT platforms."

Others highlighted the K-drama's small promotion at the last minute before its release on July 22, 2024. They stated that if the Olympics had a special category for the "most successful underdog drama," Serendipity’s Embrace would win it.

Serendipity’s Embrace starring Kim So-hyun and Chae Jong-hyeop wins global recognition for its plot

In Serendipity's Embrace, Kim So-hyun plays an animation production director Lee Hong-joo, who is afraid to let love back into her heart because of past tragedies. When she suddenly runs into her first high school love Kang Hoo-yeong, played by Chae Jong-hyeop, a financial advisor, her life changes.

Kang Hoo-yeong reappears in her life and ignites a resurgence of prior emotions. But when Lee Hong-joo's ex-boyfriend Bang Jun-ho (Yoon Ji-on), a well-liked and free-spirited writer, comes back, their blossoming romance is put to the test.

In the finale, Kang Hoo-yeong asks Hong-joo to accompany him to the US as he has a lawsuit to take care of. Despite her desire to leave with him, Hong-joo is unable to do so since everything that holds value to her, is in Seoul. She promises Hoo-yeong that she will wait for him till he returns from the US.

However, in the last scene of Serendipity's Embrace, Hong-joo arrives at the airport with her suitcase and surprises Hoo-yeong. She tells him that she has too many vacation days and has chosen to utilize them all in the United States. Hoo-yeong and Hong-joo set out on another "serendipitous" journey, getting their happy ending.

Meanwhile, viewers compared Serendipity's Embrace to other popular K-dramas such as Lovely Runner, Doctor Slump, and Love Next Door (ongoing).
