On November 14, 2024, ATEEZ dropped the second teaser of their forthcoming song, Ice on My Teeth. The track is the lead single from their upcoming 11th mini album Golden Hour: Part 2, set to be released on November 15.
The MV teaser shows the eight group members, Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho, open the video with a backdrop set on fire. In the 20-second clip (removing 10 seconds of KQ Entertainment's introduction), they take a seat beside one another sequentially.
Eagle-eyed fans speculated that the MV teaser concept could be based on chess. A fan highlighted how each member from either side of the row mirrored one another's sitting style, apart from Seonghwa and Hongjoong, who represented the queen and the king from chess, respectively. The fan wrote:
"They're chess pieces oh my god I'm going insane I'm going insane. Thats why they're all mirrored except hongjoong and seonghwa. guys. guys"
Fans expressed excitement over the MV teaser and shared their take on the concept. Some fans stated that Seonghwa was the chess queen, so he took the last seat.
"Idk which one is sexier, ateez being chess pieces or atiny finding that out," one fan wrote.
"Seonghwa as the queen is just perfection and they knew what they are doing." another fan wrote.
"Now it makes sense why seonghwa is the one who sat last.. in chess, the queen is the strongest piece who can freely move and do anything at the king's command," one other fan added.
However, others highlighted how "brilliant" the wordplay of the title Ice on My Teeth is, interpreting it as a metaphor for "beware of how dangerous we can be."
"That is BRILLIANT WORDPLAY. And to say “eyes on my teeth” means to “watch out for my bite” or 'beware of how dangerous we can be' or 'watch out here we come'," one fan noted.
"The king doesn't command the queen (or any other piece) in chess. The queen, being the most powerful piece, has the ability to protect the king (who is the most crucial piece) effectively with her wide range of moves across the board." another fan added.
"nah cause they got this concept PERFECTLY having yunho and mingi as the rooks, hongjoong as the king ugh im such a nerd but its beautiful," one other fan said.
