On January 6, 2025, SM Entertainment announced that Wendy, a member of Red Velvet, will not be participating in the highly anticipated SMTOWN LIVE 2025 event. The company cited "personal reasons" for her absence. However, she took to Bubble to address the situation, expressing her disappointment over the timing of the announcement.

According to Wendy, she had informed the company about her decision to sit out the event over a month ago. She shared her confusion and frustration, saying she did not understand why the news was only being shared with fans just days before the event.

She also took the opportunity to apologize to her fans for her absence, expressing regret for any disappointment it may cause.

The delay in communication has sparked discussions among fans, with many expressing sympathy for the star while also questioning the company's handling of the announcement. One fan wrote on X:

"This is just they really can't do things worse"

More fans criticized the company and their treatment of the artists.

“SM is "So Messy". Their treatment is so dirty.” A fan commented.
“The treatment her and red velvet in general that they are getting is absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful,” a fan claimed.
“She finally stood up for herself..” a fan affirmed.

Some other fans expressed how they felt that Wendy was not treated well.

“Thanks for posting her response. Company wants to act like their artists are pulling out last minute when they never agreed to go at all,” a fan wrote.
“She’s so mistreated,” a fan claimed.
“Wendy's heartfelt message calms fans, prioritizing well-being and music.” A fan said.

Fans criticize SM Entertainment for delayed announcements as Wendy and Taeyeon won't perform at SMTOWN LIVE 2025

On January 6, SM Entertainment announced that Wendy of Red Velvet would not be participating in the SMTOWN LIVE 2025 concert, scheduled for commencement on January 11 and 12.

The announcement came via a brief statement alongside the release of merchandise for the company's 30th-anniversary merchandise book, leaving fans disheartened.

The official statement from SM Entertainment read:

"Red Velvet’s Wendy will not be participating due to personal reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the change in the lineup, and ticket cancellations and refunds due to this can be processed without cancellation fees through the ticketing platform’s customer service center."

While the company's announcement was abrupt, Wendy herself addressed the situation on Bubble, offering more clarity about the situation. She revealed that her absence had been planned and communicated to the company over a month ago.

She expressed her confusion and disappointment over why the news had been delayed.

She said:

"I actually discussed this with the company over a month ago, but the notice was only posted today… I’m sure there were a lot of ReVeluvs who were looking forward to seeing Red Velvet perform as a full group of five, and I’m really sorry about that. Since it’s the 30th anniversary, there are a variety of stages being prepared. I hope you’ll have a great time. Thank you, as always, and I’m sorry. I’m not sick, and I’m healthy."

She further reassured emphasizing that her goal for 2025 is to remain healthy, and happy, and perform as much as possible.

Similarly, Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation also announced her absence from the concert. Similar to Wendy, the announcement came well after the decision had been made, which showcased the company's lack of timely communication.

These delayed announcements have sparked criticism toward SM Entertainment, with fans labeling the handling of the situation as unprofessional and irresponsible.

While their absences will be felt, excitement remains high for the 30th-anniversary celebrations of SMTOWN LIVE 2025. Fans are eagerly anticipating the performances from the rest of the lineup and the diverse stages promised by the artists of SM Entertainment.
