On October 5, 2024, SEVENTEEN's Hoshi shared a compilation video on his Instagram story where he mentioned DJ Khaled as one of his dream collaborations. The video seemingly offended some fans as they suggested that Hoshi shouldn't collaborate and promote DJ Khaled as the latter has seemingly been quiet about Palestine's ongoing humanitarian crisis.
For the unversed, DJ Khaled's parents are Palestinian and immigrated to the United States decades ago. However, netizens claimed that musicians haven't donated anything to the survivors' relief campaign amidst the ongoing Palestine humanitarian crisis. Additionally, several K-pop fans accused him of allegedly having close ties with Scooter Braun and Diddy, who are reportedly known for being pro-Israel.
However, several CARATs (SEVENTEEN fans) defended Hoshi for his post. They highlighted the difference between educating artists on sensitive topics and bullying them online.
One fan criticized netizens for attacking Hoshi and wrote on X:
"As a horangdan, yes it hurts watching Hoshi getting attacked by carats because of his mistake. I can't defend him either because what he said is sth I didn't like too. But again, you can educate him without saying these things. This is not EDUCATING, this is bullying"
CARATs underscored that naming DJ Khaled as one of his dream collaborations doesn't make Hoshi a supporter of Israel.
"Educating" them. Bullying and calling names to idols without showing your identity and speaking and educating morals to idols..What morals do they talk about. Do they practice what they do? Morals are only talked to bully kpop idols.? Idk" one fan wrote on X.
"Never thought I’d see the day when Carats would turn toxic! Did he donate money to support Zionists? Did he publicly say, ‘I support them’? No! So, stop this nonsense. A simple feature or saying he likes DJ Khaled doesn’t make him a supporter of genocide," another fan defended Hoshi.
"Lmao, there are still some people who don’t know how to use their brains. Don’t ever call yourselves “carats”. Disgusting," another fan wrote.
Others criticized users for allegedly bullying K-pop artists online and name-calling them.
"Carats are not carating anymore.. they're becoming toxic as day goes by," a fan remarked.
"I want them to realize that they’re not in any way educating svt. They’re harassing them," another fan said.
"And they call themselves "fans" ?? Tf is wrong with these people, please stop, can they just use their brain once and think how hard svt must be working for this album? PLEASE DON'T RUIN IT!! DON'T RUIN THEIR HARD WORK!!" one other fan added.
