On Thursday, October 24, Mnet's music show, MCountdown, announced that its broadcast will take a break until next year, 2025, during the latest music show broadcast. However, Mnet did not explain the reason behind this. When this news landed on the internet, several fans expressed their displeasure.

While many were angered at the fact that the announcement was made at the last minute, fans of several artists also came forward to convey their disappointment. This was because several artists, such as BABYMONSTER, G-Dragon, BTS' JIN, BLACKPINK's Rosé, etc., have an upcoming comeback release or ongoing promotions for their albums.

Fans also speculated that this announcement might not have been a coincidence. Here are a few reactions to MCountdown announcing its break of music show broadcasts:

"This isn't a coincidence! Plus, I think Show Champion is also taking a break. (correct me if I'm wrong) I know how much the industry tries to hinder YG artists. GD comeback, Rosé, Jennie, Baby Monster. Nah, I've seen it before." claimed one fan on X.
"GD COMEBACK, ROSIE FULL ALBUM, BABYMONSTER COMEBACK, OH MNET" said a fan on X
"Changes rules last minute, ignores that there’s cb’s at the second half of the year, and now they need a break lol the audacity" added another fan
"Oh mnet be like: "we don't give a mcd trophy to november and december comeback groups"" commented a netizen

More fans and netizens expressed concerns about the broadcast's break announcement amidst popular artists' comeback.

"Oh wow, what about the groups having comebacks at the end of the year? I don’t remember them doing this last year. Wonder what’s going on." stated a fan
"doing this when all the comebacks of popular groups and just groups in general happening nov 1st…..just stupid" commented another fan
"now why they just went off air when so many idols having cb in nov they could have gone on break during awards shows though" added a netizen
"there are so many groups who are planning comebacks/debuts late October - December so that’s actually crazy" said an X user

All you need to know about Mnet's music show broadcast, MCountdown

MCountdown is a South Korean music show broadcasted by Mnet since 2004. The show rolls out a new episode every Thursday at 6 PM KST, held at the CJ E&M Center Studio in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul. In every episode, the music broadcast ranks the top 10 artists based on their comeback sales and fan votes through Mnet's app.

The artist at the top of the rank takes home a trophy. However, that's not all that the show brings to the table.

K-pop groups and artists recently rolling out comebacks or other releases also showcase their performances at the MCountdown stages. The show's first hosts, in 2005, were Super Junior's Leeteuk, Shindong, and Kangin.

Now, in 2024, the MCountdown's hosts are ZEROBASEONE's Sung Hanbin, RIIZE's Sohee, and BOYNEXTDOOR's Myung Jaehyun. Currently, MCountdown also holds a total of four segments, namely, MCD Dance Challenge, MCD Vocal Challenge, Storage M, and M Studio. These segments invite artists to engage in dance and vocal challenges while also having them play fun games.

Given that MCountdown stands as one of the leading music show broadcasts, which often boosts K-pop groups and soloists' comeback, many are upset about its broadcast break as it might affect the artists who have releases scheduled in the coming months of 2024.
