On September 12, the second part of Queen Woo season one was released on over-the-top streaming service TVing. Season one of the period drama has a total of eight episodes that were aired in two parts. Both parts have four episodes each. The latest K-drama is set in the Goguryeo era. Queen Woo seemed to be based on a true story
Ever since the period drama aired on TVing, viewers have raised speculations about the plot being inspired by the life of Queen U. According to historical accounts of Korea, Queen U was a member of the U clan who, in 180 AD, tied the knot with King Go Nammu of Goguryeo.
The oldest records of Korean history, Samsuk Sagi, have mentioned the details of the Kingdom of Goguryeo. Therefore, the series seemed to be guided by the life and reign of Queen U of Goguryeo. The history also detailed the king's unfortunate death and the queen's struggles to maintain her place as ruler in a male-dominated society.
