On September 28, 2024, BLACKPINK's Lisa performed at the Global Citizen Music Festival as the first female K-pop soloist. The event was held in New York City’s Central Park and was live-streamed on Veeps from 4 pm (ET) onwards. She also performed her unreleased track, Moonlit Floor, which is scheduled for a global release on October 3, 2024.
The English song lyrics covered her singing about a French green-eyed man under the moonlight in Paris. Despite the song being soothing to the ears, netizens noted that the K-pop sensation allegedly lip-synced throughout her performance.
Some expressed their disappointment in watching her put her mic down while the song kept playing in the background, emphasizing her lip-syncing. A netizen wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"Is the mic necessary when you are just going to lipsync the whole performance? Like this is embarrassing"
Some netizens claimed that the lyrics from her latest unreleased song, Moonlit Floor, are similar to Kiss Me by Six Pence None The Richer. Others weighed in their opinions of how disappointing it is to see K-pop idols lip-sync on shows when they are well-trained to sing and dance simultaneously live.
"The lyrics of her new song-another plagiarism content," one person said.
"Lisa performing at global citizen was a big messed, heavily off singing as well as obviously off lip syncing if she did the same things in Victoria secret show is not gonna be good for her career," another fan wrote.
"Kpop artists lipsyncing after extensively training need to be studied, what was the point of your training bootcamp?" another netizen questioned.
However, some of her fans defended Lisa and mentioned that they enjoyed the song regardless of whether she lip-synced or not.
"Who cares the music still good lip syncing been around for ages get over it already," one fan said.
"Can y'all stop with this "she's lip-syncing"?! like i love an artist who lip-syncs why are you mad?! if you don't like it just stan someone who sings live and move on!" another fan added.
"Lisa should be the last person you’re gonna accuse of lip syncing knowing how she’s the first one to prove they’re love singing in every concert they have," another fan said.
BLACKPINK's Lisa donned a layered outfit at the 2024 Global Citizen Music Festival
For the Thai performer from BLACKPINK, it's been a busy year as she established her company, LLOUD, on February 7, 2024. She parted ways with YG Entertainment in December 2024. Later, in April 2024, she signed a partnership deal between her company, LLOUD, and the American music label, RCA Records.
Meanwhile, at her debut performance at the 2024 Global Citizen Music Festival, Lisa opted for a layered ensemble. It included a mesh bodysuit with a leather bralette layered over a bodice composed of semi-sheer black, yellow, and nude fabric.
Earlier, on September 12, 2024, Lisa became the first K-pop female soloist to win the "Best K-pop" category at the MTV Video Music Awards. She also became the first K-pop soloist to perform at the award ceremony.
In order to raise awareness about extreme poverty worldwide and climate change, which has an impact on food insecurity and environmental destruction, the Global Citizen Festival brought in several big stars. On the 2024 roster were Raye, BLACKPINK's Lisa, Post Malone, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, and Benson Boone.
Additionally, Hugh Jackman, DJ Khaled, Rachel Bresnahan, Gayle King, Danai Gurira, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were among the presenters and attendees.
