Melo Movie- Trailer and a word from the director

The teaser of Melo Movie, designed like a still from a melodrama, captures an intimate midnight gaze between Ko Gyeom and Kim Moo-bi. Ko Gyeom’s warm smile contrasts with Kim Moo-bi’s conflicted expression, paired with the intriguing phrase, “Will it be a happy ending this time?”

In the accompanying teaser, Kim Moo-bi is determined to create “an amazing melo movie” and crosses paths with Ko Gyeom in what feels like a fateful encounter. Ko Gyeom’s initial intrigue leads him to quip about her name, saying,

“I’m a big movie fan. But your name is literally ‘movie.’” However, Moo-bi remains aloof, responding, “Can you not talk to me?”

Their frequent meetings on set gradually bring them closer, with Ko Gyeom confessing, “I like you. Am I not allowed to like you?” Following a shared kiss, Moo-bi shockingly reveals, “Ko Gyeom disappeared just like that.”

A kiss marks a turning point in their relationship, but Kim Moo-bi’s narration, “Ko Gyeom disappeared like that,” adds an element of mystery. Ko Gyeom, who once appeared out of nowhere and touched her heart, vanishes unexpectedly. The two reconnect later, now as a director and a critic, turning Moo-bi's life upside down.

Directed by Oh Choong-hwan, known for hit dramas like Hotel Del Luna, Castaway Diva, Startup, and Big Mouth, and written by Lee Na-eun, who showcased the essence of youthful romance in That Year Us, the series blends fresh, emotional nuances with an exceptional cast. Starring Choi Woo-shik, Park Bo-young, Lee Joon-young, and Jeon So-ni, the drama is already generating high expectations.

"A good story has the power to make you look back on yourself, and this work had that power the moment I first encountered it. It expressed the excitement and wandering I felt during my childhood and youth,” said Oh Choog-hwan.

Director Oh Choong-hwan expressed that while the melodrama genre had always been a dream for him, it was also unfamiliar and uncharted territory in his experience. However, he mentioned that his perspective shifted after reading the script.

"Writer Lee Na-eun reflected on the project, saying, “Melo Movie is a story that I wrote with all my heart, growing from the love you gave me for my first work. I drew the reality that youth who dream of a life like a movie face and the future they are moving forward into."

Lee Na-eun explained that everyone experiences their own romantic or challenging moments in life, akin to a movie. She shared that she wanted to offer the same support and comfort she wished to provide to herself and those around her who felt lost during such times.

Melo Movie will premiere on Netflix on February 14.
