South Korean rapper Jessi's reaction to a death threat on Instagram has garnered attention among International fans. Recently, Jessi was accused of hiding the identity of an alleged acquaintance who assaulted her fan. According to Sports Chosun's October 12 report, she was approached by a teen fan on September 29, 2024, in Gangnam, Seoul, for a photo.
However, Jessi politely declined but another man who is said to be an acquaintance of a producer close to her, started to get violent with the fan and hit them. The NUNU NANA singer has refuted the allegations of being acquainted with the assailant.
On October 23, she shared her response to a malicious comment she received in the Korean language asking her to commit suicide on her Instagram story. The comment said (as translated in English):
“The best news would be that she committed su*c*de by taking medicines, that would be good news. So I'll be waiting for it.”
Responded to the comment on her Instagram story, she wrote:
“Please stop….”
This has angered many international fans as they believe that the hate she is receiving is unreasonable. The fans stood firm with the singer and criticized the Korean netizens who have been sending the idol, death threats online.
“This is insanity!!! I promise you, no one who is happy and fulfilled or even living a normal life would ever harbour such hate for someone who hasn't harmed them personally. This is psychopathic behaviour. How miserable are these people?! Sending death wreaths, wishing self harm,” a fan said
“I will not be surprised if K-Idols Leave Korea and pursue their career abroad, because of the toxic traits of K-Fans,” another person said.
“I truly think these people do it because they have some weird power complex and actually feel good to know they've ruined someone's life. The more extreme the outcome, the better they feel. Everyone can see their reasoning can't justify the harassment they go through,” one fan wrote.
Netizens extended their support towards the ZOOM singer and continued to show similar sentiments about the hate she received.
“Is there any way for her to know that she got our back? I need her to know that she’s loved by many. I'm really worried about her overall well-being right now,” one user commented.
“I honestly am so sad that Jessi is experiencing such hardships like this. All she wanted to do was keep the peace and avoid conflict. Things like this truly shows how words really can affect someone," another user commented.
“All of this for trying to stop a fight that she wasn't even involved in? I hope she has people around her to support her,” another fan said.
