On Thursday, June 27, Geffen Records released a statement addressing the recent incident regarding their employee's actions. Recently, an ARMY made an X post inquiring the label about the iTunes pre-orders of BTS Jimin's then-upcoming track, Smeraldo Garden Marching Band.
As a response to this X post, an employee working under Geffen Records linked the Spotify link of Gracie Abrams' us. (feat. Taylor Swift), and also quoted it as the Song of the Year. When this landed on the internet, netizens and ARMYs were angered by the employee's lack of professionalism.
Many expressed that labeling a song as the Song of the Year under a post that talks about another artist's track was quite disrespectful. Given that both artists are housed under Universal Music Group, fans also speculated the possibilities of favoritism and bias within the company. As the issue got heated, Geffen Records released a statement addressing the same.
In the statement, they explained that the employee's actions were purely out of mistake and both the record label and the employee apologized for the same. Regardless, fans aren't pleased. They explained that there was no way the X response, which required several steps, could've been a mistake.
Here's how Jimin's fans responded to the statement released by the record label:
"Your employee took the time to search & copy the link to the song, before typing out the reply, adding the song link, and posting, so calling it a mistake is ridiculous, and does make it hard to believe you & your employee are "deeply sorry"," said a fan on X.
"Promote your artist properly we're tired of the sabotage! You all deserve h11 for undermining his potential. We don't want empty words we want real actions," said another fan.
"That’s it? You forgot to apologize for the lack of promotion! You forgot to apologize for making his fans have to beg for the bare minimum. You forgot to apologize to Jimin for the unprofessionalism and the lack of support from you," stated an X user.
More fans also expressed their anger and displeasure with Geffen Records' statement:
"Your apologies" are not valid because you still don't promote their music and that's supposed to be your job giving an RT to their label doesn't imply that you're doing, we don't ask you for things beyond your reach just that you respect it and do your job," said a fan on X
"It was disrespectful and unprofessional af .!!!" - added an X user
"It's basic professional etiquette to apologize properly. If the company or the employee cannot do that, it reflects poorly on their professionalism," said a netizen

After the incident that unfolded on June 22, Geffen Records released a statement on June 27, after fans and other netizens brought the label's attention to the same. Here's what their statement read:
"An employee of our label issued a single post on his personal social media account in response to an inquiry from fans of Jimin. This was made by mistake and in no way reflects either the views of the employee or those of our company."
The statement continued,
"Both he and the company are deeply sorry that this happened. The post does not comply with the company's social media policy. Our compliance team is addressing this with him directly and implementing enhanced controls across the company to assure that it never happens again."
Geffen Records concluded their statement by mentioning Jimin's upcoming album.
"We wish to assure you that the scheduled release of Jimin's second solo album MUSE, will proceed as planned without an impact."
Though the agency apologized, fans are still unhappy with the statement as they labeled the incident as a mistake instead of taking accountability for their actions.
