"This is so sad": Fans recall late Song Jae-rim's performance in 2NE1's Go Away MV following the news of his alleged death by suicide

On Tuesday, November 12, the South Korean actor Song Jae-rim was reported to have been found dead at his apartment in Seoul’s Seongdong District. He was reportedly found by his friend with whom he was supposed to have lunch that day.

According to a statement reported by Maeil Kyungjae on the same day, a police official said,

"As of now, no suspicions of m*rder or other crimes have been confirmed.”

Subsequently, speculations of the actor's cause of death being suicide landed on the internet. The police also reported that a two-page-long alleged suicide note was found at the actor's apartment following his death. Additionally, his Instagram bio reportedly read "The Start of a Long Vacation" sparking further speculation that the actor might've pre-planned his death.

In light of the actor's death, many fans discussed his previous works and performances. Song Jae-rim, who was famous for his acting in several Korean TV shows and movies has also appeared in a handful of K-pop music videos.

Fans particularly revisited his performance in 2NE1's Go Away music video from 2010, where he played the role of CL's boyfriend who breaks up with her. Fans recalled this music video and praised him for the same. Netizens also commented that they came to know about the actor through the music video.

Song Jae-rim, a 39-year-old South Korean actor, entered the industry as a model. He worked as a runway model for brands like Juun. J, Herin Homme, and Ha Sang Beg, for their Seoul Collections.

He kickstarted his acting career in 2009 and made his debut through the movie, Actresses. Song Jae-rim had his big break in 2012 through his work in the historical K-drama, The Moon Embracing the Sun.

Some of his other works include Big Man, Goodbye Mr. Black, Two Weeks, Secret Garden, Unkind Ladies, Our Gap-soon, My Military Valentine, etc. Most recently, he starred in the web series, Queen Woo, that released in August 2024. He also worked in the musical production, La Rose de Versailles, which was performed at the Chungmu Arts Hall in 2024.
