On September 14, 2024, Kim Namjoon of BTS shared a song on his Instagram story which sent his fans into an online frenzy. The song, Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart, by Stevie Wonder was released on September 3, 2024, and emphasized on the social concerns in America.
Namjoon's fans were impressed by his choice of song and some speculated that the BTS frontman was trying to hint at the ongoing scrutiny towards his bandmate, Min Yoongi aka Suga. For the unversed, Suga was charged for drunk driving a foldable electric scooter on August 7, 2024.
Additionally, Namjoon's agency, HYBE Labels' public feud with the former CEO of its subsidiary label, ADOR, Min Hee-jin, has caused a stir online. Furthermore, BTS' Jungkook also took to Instagram via his pet dog, Bam's account, and posted "Artists are not guilty," addressing NewJeans' YouTube livestream.
Some were convinced that Namjoon choosing legendary musician Stevie Wonder's latest release could have been about the company feud. One fan wrote on X,
"Any doubt you had about our men knowing we aren’t leaving, can they see us, are gone. This speaks volumes"
Others mentioned that BTS' Namjoon aka RM was trying to convey his standpoint via music.
"He always find a way to tell army what he feels and that broken nation is the media attacks on suga and other haters. Glad to se him giving us hints he must feel helpless," one fan said.
"So good. Legend Stevie Wonder speaking facts to the US with the current politics but a message that goes worldwide. BTS are so proud to be Korean and love their country," another fan shared their view.
"Namjoon have so much things to say but can't . 2025 please come faster," another fan noted.
Several fans also expressed that the BTS leader's latest Instagram story post made them emotional.
"NAMJOON posting this feels so heavy, they know what's going on and I know they also wish for a beautiful world... which unfortunately do not exist," one fan wrote.
"I love how Namjoon always speaks to us or the world in general through different songs' lyrics. When you have a lot to say and want to keep it simple but effective, music is always the best way of doing it," another fan said.
""People pushing and shouting and fighting through the haze And all this sadness, madness, help me take away the pain, it's gotta change This can't stay the same, so tell me please Can we fix our nation's broken heart?" He keeps sending us important messages in ways that he can," one fan said.
BTS' Jungkook comments on NewJeans' involvement in HYBE versus Min Hee-jin's ongoing public feud
South Korean media outlet Edaily reported that according to HYBE, Jungkook posted two posts on Bam's Instagram account to address how the company feud has been affecting young artists like LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, and NewJeans.
"We have confirmed that he posted it because he thought that under no circumstances should a young artist be dragged into a dispute and used as a shield."
On September 11, 2024, NewJeans held a livestream and stated that they don't feel safe under the new ADOR management. The rookie girl group also demanded HYBE bring back Min Hee-jin as ADOR's CEO by September 25.
Since Park Ji-won's departure in July 2024, Lee Jae-sang was formally named as the new CEO of HYBE Labels. He addressed the requests made by NewJeans on Min Hee-jin's reappointment as ADOR CEO.
Lee Jae-sang stressed that principles and regulations must be followed in handling the situation. He added that ADOR's independent board of directors decided to dismiss Min Hee-jin as the CEO.
In other news, BTS' Namjoon and Jungkook have been serving in the military since December 2023 and will return in June 2025.
