On January 1, 2025, Sports Chosun reported that HYBE and its subsidiaries Pledis Entertainment and Source Music are intending to create two new girl groups in 2025. The news occurred shortly after the disbandment of the HYBE's 2018 female group, Fromis_9.

K-pop fans quickly noticed this and expressed their dissatisfaction with Pledis, and Source Music. As a result, they filled the internet with criticism and frustration about the formation of a new girl group. One X user wrote:

“treat your current idols right first idfk”

Many additional K-pop fans expressed their fury over HYBE, Pledis, and Source Music's plans to create two more girl groups, particularly after the disbandment of Fromis_9, whose contract expired on December 31, 2024. Some argued that Pledis should be prohibited for "managing women."

"I wish they take some more time in taking care of LE SSERAFIM," wrote a fan.
“ban pledis entertainment for every managing women ever again, it’s ridiculous how they keep getting away with disrespecting their female artists again and again like that,” wrote a fan.
“couldn’t manage any of their girl groups correctly and one literally left yesterday due to sh*tty management but here they are debuting a new one free them,” stated another K-pop fan.
“hybe.. babes it’s time to stop with the ggs” stated an X user.

Several supporters asked HYBE and Pledis for bettering the existing girl groups rather than forming a new one, while others described HYBE as "misogynistic."

“stop debuting new gg if you can't treat them good,” commented a netizen.
“pledis entertainment needs to debut a sense of respect and professionalism towards the women under them before a new girl group i fucking hate this company,” stated another X user.
“HEY so maybe don’t debut a new gg when you couldn’t even properly manage your last one!,” commented a netizen.
“this company is too misogynistic to continue debuting women whose careers they will let die ... free them,” wrote an X user.
