According to YTN's report on January 14, Uhm Jung-hwa has been cast for the lead role in the new drama My Golden Star. She is expected to portray Im Se-ra, a top actress who quickly rises to fame after her debut and becomes the youngest recipient of an acting award.

My Golden Star further follows Korea’s leading star, Im Se-ra, whose life takes an unexpected turn after a sudden accident, forcing her to live a completely different reality. The drama reunites Good Casting director Choi Young-hoon and writer Park Ji-ha.

Actor Song Seung-heon will also be joining the project as detective Dokgo Chul, as reported by JTBC News on January 14. This would mark his first collaboration with Uhm Jung-hwa in a decade since the 2015 film Miss Wife. In My Golden Star, Song Seung-heon's character is reported to be a detective who wished to get married before 40 but found his passion waning with time.

His life also takes an unexpected turn when he meets Im Se-ra, igniting a new connection between them. Meanwhile, actress and singer Uhm Jung-hwa experienced a remarkable career resurgence in 2023 with the dual successes of the JTBC drama Doctor Cha and the tvN variety show Dancing Queens on the Road.


Uhm Jung-hwa and her recent notable works

Uhm Jung-hwa’s last notable project was Miss Fortune, a 2023 film directed by Lee Seung-joon, Son Byungho, and Park Ho-san. The story revolves around a woman determined to transform her life but faces an unexpected dilemma when her daughter becomes entangled with a wealthy broker who possesses a fortune of 60 billion won.

In 2023, Uhm Jung-hwa also starred in Doctor Cha, a medical drama directed by Kim Dae-jin, featuring Kim Byung-chul, Myung Se-bin, and Min Woo-hyuk. The series follows Cha Jeong-sook, a housewife who decides to rekindle her dream of becoming a doctor, enrolling in medical school at the age of 46.

Notably, she also appeared in the 2012 film Dancing Queen, where she played a housewife pursuing her dream of becoming a singer while supporting her husband, portrayed by Hwang Jung-min, as he unexpectedly runs for mayor of Seoul.

In the 2009 romantic comedy-drama The Man Who Can’t Get Married, she portrayed Jang Moon-jung, a pivotal character who transforms the life of a solitary architect, Jo Jae-hee, played by Ji Jin-hee.


Song Seung-heon’s other projects

Song Seung-heon recently starred in the mystery thriller Hidden Face, directed by Kim Dae-woo of Obsessed. The film follows Sung-jin (played by Song Seung-heon), a man searching for his missing fiancée, Su-yeon (Cho Yeo-jeong).

During his investigation, he encounters Mi-joo (Park Ji-hyun), Su-yeon’s junior colleague. The plot takes a dark turn as Sung-jin discovers Su-yeon trapped in a secret location, where she witnesses the true nature of both her fiancé and Mi Joo.

He has also appeared in numerous television dramas, including Autumn in My Heart, East of Eden, My Princess, Black, Player, The Great Show, and Dinner Mate. In 2021, he was featured in the fourth season of Voice.
