Lay, the Chinese member of EXO, sparked excitement among fans with hints about a possible reunion with the group. However, he clarified that these plans are not yet confirmed.

Having been inactive with EXO since 2021, this news has brought immense joy to fans, reigniting hopes of seeing him perform with the group once again. Despite his solo pursuits, Lay Zhang has consistently expressed admiration and support for his group members, emphasizing his desire to be there for them. Meanwhile, some fan reactions to the recent news are as follows:

Lay teases an OT9 EXO reunion

Lay Zhang, or Zhang Yixing, has been part of the group EXO since its debut in 2012. However, his commitment to the group was tested, as geopolitical tensions between South Korea and China made it challenging for him to promote with the group.

Starting in 2016, his appearances with EXO became sporadic, and he ultimately focused more on his solo activities in China. Despite this, Lay always expressed his loyalty to EXO and their fans, consistently referring to himself as a proud member of the group.

In 2021, the rapper-singer participated in EXO’s special album Don’t Fight the Feeling, marking a significant moment, as it was his first group comeback in years. But, in 2022, he officially parted ways with SM Entertainment after his contract expired.

However, he reassured fans that his departure from the label did not mean his departure from EXO. He has since maintained that he is always ready to reunite with the group when the opportunity arises.

In September 2025, Sehun will be the last EXO member to complete his military service. This timeline aligns with Lay’s recent comments about a potential group reunion around September or October, as all EXO members would then be available to participate in group activities.

During the above-mentioned live stream, as translated by netizens, he said:

"In September or October, see if we can get together with the members... I don’t know, I’m not sure right now, but we’re chatting."

While Lay clarified that nothing has been confirmed, the mere mention of a possible reunion has thrilled fans. The star, who hasn’t visited Korea or performed with EXO in years, reuniting with the group for a full nine-member performance has been a long-held dream for EXO-Ls.

Last month, EXO's leader Suho also encouraged fans to anticipate the group’s activities in 2025, during his appearance at the 9th Asia Artist Awards held in Bangkok, Thailand. Notably, the group's youngest members, Kai and Sehun, are set to complete their mandatory military service in 2025, with Kai scheduled for discharge on February 10 and Sehun following on September 20.
