More about the Jeju Flight crash accident
On December 29, a Jeju flight crashed upon descending in South Korea, killing over 170 passengers. At Muan International Airport, disturbing recordings saw the Jeju Airplane going off the runway before hitting a concrete barrier and erupting into flames.
The airliner, coming back from Bangkok, Thailand, had on board 181 people. Out of the total number 179 lost their lives, while the two staff members were saved from the debris. Authorities are presently examining the airplane crash, which fire investigators believe may have been caused by a bird strike and severe weather. However, analysts cautioned that the disaster might have been caused by a variety of circumstances.
7C2216 was a Boeing 737-800 plane operated by Jeju Air, Korea's most popular low-cost airline. Air traffic control cleared the plane to land at Muan International Airport at about 08:54 am KST on December 29, only three minutes prior to sending an alert about bird movements throughout the area.
At 08:59 am KST, the pilot indicated that the plane had collided with a bird, saying "mayday mayday mayday" and "bird strike, bird strike, go-around," as reported by Guardian. The pilot then gave up the first landing and asked for approval to land from the other direction.
At 09:01 am KST, air traffic control approved an alternate landing, and quickly, the plane came in touch with the surface, landing nearly halfway down the 2,800-meter runway. One video appeared to show that the plane's landing took place without the use of its wheels or conventional landing gear. It slid down the runway, exceeded it, and collided with a wall before bursting into flames.
In related news, acting President Choi Sang-mok paid a visit to the memorial premises, stressing the state's dedication to assisting the mourning households. The President has vowed to be transparent about the probe into the Jeju flight crash and called for prompt action to keep from repeating tragic events.
