On October 29, 2024, BTS' Jin made his highly-anticipated appearance on the popular web entertainment series The K Star Next Door, hosted by MC Jonathan. The music talk show is known for inviting well-known stars from the broadcasting industry and hosting karaoke sessions. For the last episode of its fourth season, the BTS idol was featured as a guest.
The host revealed how much he wanted the BigHit Music group to attend his show, having expressed his wish to invite them several times in the past. As he began to read aloud Jin's artist profile, introducing him as "The world star" he asked the former if he agreed to the title:
"You admit that you're world-class, right?"
Jin humbly responded that it was true because he performed around the world. The host then commenced reading out BTS' achievements, including making many Guinness World Records and boasting six music videos with over one billion YouTube views. Surprisingly, Jin admitted to not knowing about the achievements of the YouTube videos.
The next question the host asked was at what point since their debut did the artist realize he was famous, precisely referring to a "we made it" moment. The Moon singer paused to think and responded that he had never quite felt that before, crediting BTS' consistent hard work as the reason behind the group's success. He said:
"I never really felt that before. We got to stand where we are today after doing our best every day. The thought of 'We made it' never occurred to me before."
Some highlights from The K Star Next Door 4's final episode with BTS' Jin
The segment titled 'BTS Jin is here! #KStarNextDoor is officially a world-class show!' began with a snippet of Jin recalling the hilarious memories from the day of his military discharge where his co-members had gathered. The episode officially kicked off with the MC welcoming the idol, humorously calling him the winner of the 'His Existence Alone Is Amazing' Award.
The duo shared some good-natured banter and Jin sprinkled his signature dad jokes throughout the interview. When asked why Jin picked the show for an appearance, he referred to Jonathan wanting BTS on his program as being one reason. On top of that, he gave in to fans' requests to see him on The K Star Next Door.
One of the questions he was asked was about his recent role as a torchbearer at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics representing South Korea and how he spoke in Korean in an interview with a French reporter. Hearing some reactions from amazed netizens on this incident, the 31-year-old vocalist candidly expressed how he too was surprised that he could do the interview in Korean.
Other topics included his education at Konkuk University, where he majored in theatre and acting. Resorting to his usual dialogue, "Back in my day," he joked about the rumor of good looks having a role in getting accepted into the university.
The MC laughed and asked Jin to confirm if he had actually texted his professor during his rookie days about missing a class due to his busy schedule. Remembering the incident, Jin admitted to having done so because he had to balance work and education simultaneously.
While the Tonight artist regaled the MC with stories from his military life, he was further inquired about his popularity among fellow soldiers because he spent much money there. Jin promptly agreed to both statements. However, he added that he never scolded anyone which added to his good reputation. He summed up the whole, saying:
"I was very nice and spent a lot of money as well."
Furthermore, BTS' RM's antics with the saxophone on Jin's discharge day were also talked about. Endearingly calling the gesture "chaotic," Jin went on to reveal how the members had all managed to gather for the big day, some attending in uniform and others coming from vacations. He also comically pointed out that they were late in showing up for the occasion.
On being asked to send out a message to the members who were to return soon, Jin joked and said:
"That is a wrong question. No one will be discharged soon. They still have hundreds of days left. There are people who will be discharged after a long time."
However, he did send out well wishes to his fellow bandmates who are still on duty.
The topic soon steered into the good-looks territory. The MC not only ended up measuring Jin's shoulders, but he also gave the artist a few accessories to enhance his looks, comprising a face chain, a 'gat' (Korean traditional hat), earphones, and more items.
Other memorable moments included Jin reminiscing about the septet's rookie days after their debut, where they promoted their music in the US.
While explaining why the Grammy-nominated group's song titles are so unique, Jin responded that initially, they wanted to use young people's terminology, with titles like Spine Breaker and Dope.
The MC further held up Super Tuna's poster to acknowledge its amusing title while Jin laughed and covered his face. As the BTS member sang out the song upon the former's request, the MC could not help but break into laughter after hearing the lyrics.
The 37-minute episode was packed with a lot of heartfelt and funny conversations. In line with the show's tradition, a live performance was saved for last. As the highlight of the show, Jin ended the episode by performing his latest pre-release track, I'll Be There, with Jonathan accompanying him in a karaoke-like setup. This also marked the first time the song was performed on TV.
In other news, BTS' Jin is set to launch his debut solo album Happy on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2 pm KST. A Happy Special Stage for fans will also be held on Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17, to celebrate the release.
