On Tuesday, September 10, Dolphiners Films' Shin Woo-seok, who also worked as NewJeans' MV director, released a response to ADOR. Previously, on September 2, Shin Woo-seok shared a statement expressing that ADOR demanded the removal of all NewJeans-related content from the company's platforms on the basis of ownership.
Shin also added that the demand was unfair since it was reportedly agreed upon that the content also belonged to the director. On September 9, ADOR released a response statement expressing that they only requested the removal of the director's cut of ETA from their platforms. Shin's response to this was the latest statement that surfaced on the internet.
Shin continued to state that even ETA's director's cut release was agreed upon. He also stated that the agency has been dragging a third party into the issue, despite the third party's lack of interest in being involved in the conflict. He further expressed that he would take legal action as he believed the situation was unfair.
"Based on their public statements, which are freely written as if the public has no way to verify the truth, ADOR would lose if the agreements were proven. It looks like we’re headed to court now. Legally, they say it’s an easy case. It seems ADOR just wants to drag things out and avoid public scrutiny."
He added that since there hasn't been a proper apology from the agency as of yet, they will be suing sue CEO Kim Ju-young and Vice President Lee Do-kyung for defamation by submitting the recordings, emails, and required evidence to prove their case.
Shin Woo-seok, the director of NewJeans' ETA and Ditto MV, releases a statement warning legal action against ADOR
On September 9, ADOR released a statement in response to Shin Woo-seok's initial statement, expressing that all the rights of NewJeans' content belong to their agency alone. Further, they claimed that Dolphiners Films' usage of the group's content was against the contract and demanded the deletion of the content uploaded by the director's company.
"Deleting all content in response to pointing out these violations seems neither an act of creative suffering nor something done for NewJeans and their fans. We hope that actions that exacerbate the insecurity of artists and fandom by holding the YouTube channel hostage will cease,” they said.
However, Shin Woo-seok called out the agency and expressed that they have proof to showcase that ADOR is allegedly lying. Here's what his statement read (as translated from Korean):
"Every time I read their official statement, it’s infuriating. This could have ended with an acknowledgment of wrongdoing and an apology, but why do they keep changing their words and lying? What about the recordings and emails we have?"
He continued:
"All the content and channels we uploaded were agreed upon. Just because the management changed doesn't mean those agreements disappear. Even the director’s cut that ADOR has raised an issue with was agreed upon by all three parties, including the ending. There was a request to modify part of the tagline, but there was no problem with uploading the video. "
Shin Woo-seok stated that the agency has allegedly been dragging other companies involved in the MV projects, further causing them harm. He also added that the agency directly demanded the deletion without requesting proof of ownership from his company.
The channel suddenly disappeared overnight on September 2. While the agency stated that the company could operate through the Ban Hee-soo channel, the agency reportedly asked for ownership of the channel privately.
The director also spoke about the YouTube channel, Ban Hee-soo, which is legally owned by Dolphiners Films. Ban Hee-soo is a fictional character that appears in NewJeans' music videos and represents the group and its fans.
He concluded his statement by expressing that while he was planning to let go of the situation after receiving an apology from the agency, due to ADOR's response, they will be taking legal action. He also said that he will be reopening the Ban Hee-soo channel and the agency can sue him if they'd like.
