HYBE, the entertainment powerhouse behind BTS, recently provided an update regarding its legal measures against individuals behind harmful activities. Through a statement shared on Weverse on December 26, 2024, the company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of its artists. These efforts include addressing defamation, personal attacks, harassment, false information, and other malicious behavior.

Among various platforms stated by HYBE, including TheQoo, Nate Pann, and more, DC Gallery was also highlighted in HYBE’s update as one of the forums under scrutiny. For those unaware, DC Gallery is a widely recognized South Korean online platform. This site, known for its user-generated content and topic-specific "galleries," allows users to discuss a broad array of subjects.

Created as a space for digital camera enthusiasts to showcase their photographs, DC Gallery has evolved into a hub for diverse communities, far beyond its initial purpose. Despite its transformation into a general discussion platform, the site has gained a reputation for fostering aggressive interactions and unfiltered discussions.

More about HYBE’s latest statement to shield BTS from malicious activities

In its latest report, HYBE mentioned ongoing legal proceedings against several individuals, some of whom continued posting defamatory content despite previous penalties. For instance, a notable case involved a person fined five million won for publishing hundreds of offensive posts.

Additionally, HYBE is pursuing lawsuits related to stalking, leaking personal information, and other harmful activities targeting BTS members. The Weverse notice from the label read,

"Hello. This is BIGHIT MUSIC. We regularly initiate legal proceedings against perpetrators of malicious activities targeting BTS, including defamation, personal attacks, sexual harassment, the dissemination of false information, and ill-intentioned criticism."

The statement further read,

"Since our previous notice, multiple suspects whose cases were forwarded to the prosecution have been fined up to two million won. Among them were individuals who continued uploading malicious posts despite being penalized in earlier complaints. One defendant, who posted hundreds of insulting and defamatory statements on their personal blog, has been convicted and fined a total of five million won."

Among the platforms mentioned in the update were DC Inside, Nate Pann, TheQoo, and Instiz. These sites have been used to spread malicious posts about BTS, including the members currently serving in the military.

Fans were also encouraged to report such posts via HYBE's dedicated platform to aid in evidence collection and strengthen legal actions. The company emphasized its zero-tolerance policy, ruling out any possibility of settlements or leniency for offenders.

Notably, DC Gallery has been at the center of controversies involving BTS members. An internal document from HYBE allegedly addressing fan disputes between BTS members Jimin and Jungkook was leaked on another platform, sparking criticism of the company’s handling of such issues.

This incident added to the perception that online forums like DC Gallery often serve as breeding grounds for divisive and malicious activities.

Currently, five of the seven BTS members, RM, V, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga, are fulfilling their military service. Jin and j-hope, the first two members to enlist, were discharged in June and October 2024, respectively.

The group is expected to reunite and return to the spotlight in 2025, with all members completing their service by June next year.
