"What in multiverse is happening"— Fans react as NASA makes an Instagram post referencing Stray Kids' ‘Chk Chk Boom’ and aespa's ‘Supernova’

On Thursday, July 25, the official Instagram account of NASA posted an image that referenced K-pop groups Stray Kids and aespa. The post was of a supernova remnant called SNR 0519. It is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is a small galaxy about 160,000 light years away from Earth.

While the image showcased the explosion of a white dwarf star, the caption alluded to lyrics from the two K-pop artists' recent release. NASA used Stray Kids' recent title track, Chk Chk Boom, to refer to the explosion. They also mentioned aespa's Supernova lyrics to describe the the remains of the supernova.

"Chk chk boom. Remnants of a su-su-su-supernova explosion 160,000 light-years away bring the light of a dying white dwarf star to help us understand our universe’s past," the Instagram post read.

Following the post, fans of Stray Kids and aespa were confused by the unexpected post. However, they were happy that the groups were getting exposure through NASA's Instagram page. Here's how fans reacted to the news:

More fans expressed that they were happy to see the increase in the exposure of the K-pop groups.

"Damn every company these days are becoming K-pop fans," stated a netizen.
"Nasa referencing chk chk boom by stray kids and supernova by aespa is actually insane??," added another X user.
"Stray kids you are so much bigger than kpop itself and we all know it," added a netizen.

Stray Kids, the eight-piece K-pop boy group that debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2018, recently released a comeback. The members released their ninth mini-album, ATE, with its lead single, Chk Chk Boom.

Fans have been obsessing over the track for its uniqueness and the members' powerful choreography. They've also been surprised by the recent collaboration between Stray Kids and Deadpool 3. Not only did Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds make a guest appearance in Chk Chk Boom, but the group also released an OST track called SLASH for the movie.

Four-piece K-pop girl group aespa also rolled out a comeback recently. The group that debuted under SM Entertainment in 2020 released their first album, Armageddon, in May. Before the album's release, they rolled out a pre-release single titled Supernova, which blew up on the internet for its addictive and intriguing hook.

The album was also praised for its several features. Given that this was the first time fans and netizens received a full-scale album from the group, they were thrilled and excited with its diversity.
