On September 20, 2024, Netflix confirmed the release date for Season 2 of Hellbound. The dark fantasy series will return on October 25, 2024. A teaser trailer and poster shared on social media platforms of the Global streaming service, revealed the release date, offering a glimpse of the chaos ahead.
Season 1 ended with several major twists. Chairman Jung Jinsu disappeared, Park Jungja resurrected, and Min Hyejin fled with baby Toughie, despite the child being marked for damnation. In Season 2, the religious factions must confront the return of people once condemned. The New Truth, the Arrowheads, and Sodo leader Min Hyejin will be at the center of this battle.
The first season, released in 2021, quickly became a global hit. It ranked No. 1 in Netflix’s Best Horror Series category on Rotten Tomatoes. Within ten days, Hellbound racked up 110 million viewing hours and made the Top 10 list in 93 countries.
Jung Jinsu’s Return Unleashes New Conflict and Dark Secrets in Hellbound Season 2: more about the teaser trailer, plot and cast
In the new teaser for Season 2, the character Jung Jinsu, played by Kim Sung Cheol, returns. He is resurrected after being condemned to hell 20 years ago. The trailer shows his secret execution and the moments of his rebirth, as he frantically escapes from demonic creatures. He rises from the very spot where he was first damned. The visuals hint at more intense conflicts and mysteries for Jinsu in Season 2.
Hellbound season 2 also focuses on how Jinsu’s return will impact the New Truth and its extremist faction, Arrowhead. These groups now dominate society. Jinsu realizes he's not the only one to return from the dead. The story follows him as he uncovers what his resurrection means. At the same time, Min Hyejin must deal with the growing influence of these religious factions.
Season 2 is expected to dive deeper into the ongoing chaos of Hellbound’s world. It will explore the growing number of condemnations and resurrections. Fans can expect even more suspense, moral dilemmas, and shocking revelations as the story unfolds.
The cast and crew
In Season 2 of Hellbound, South Korean actor Kim Sung-cheol takes over the role of Jin-su, previously played by Yoo Ah-in. Kim Sung-cheol is well-known for his performance in the hit Netflix drama My Beloved Summer (2021), which gained significant popularity.
The returning cast includes Kim Hyun-joo, a lawyer who stands up against the group Arrowhead. Yang Ik-june, the detective who investigates cases involving the appearance of angels of death. Kim Shin-rok, Lee Dong-hee, and Lee Re are also returning. New faces joining the ensemble are Lim Seong-jae, Jo Dong-in, Moon Geun-young, and Hong Eui-joon.
The series is based on the webtoon by Yeon Sang Ho and Choi Kyu Seok. Yeon Sang Ho, also known for directing Train to Busan and Revelation, returns to direct the new season of Hellbound.
In a press release, Yeon Sang Ho shared his thoughts on the upcoming season, saying,
“I’m excited and nervous as the series finally returns after three years. For those who enjoyed Season 1, Season 2 will offer new questions to think about.”

Season 1 revolved around the sudden appearance of otherworldly beings from hell, known as executors, who condemned individuals to eternal damnation. A dominant religious group called The New Truth rose to power, led by the enigmatic Jung Jin-su.
As the group's influence spread, its fanatical offshoot, Arrowhead, took control, delivering brutal judgments and plunging society into a state of fear and blind obedience.
Hellbound made history when its first episode premiered at the 46th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), becoming the first Korean TV series to be featured at the prestigious event. It was later released globally on Netflix on November 19, 2021.
Hellbound Season 2 is set to premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival, running from October 4 to 11. Subsequently, the series will be available for streaming on Netflix, starting October 25
