When the Phone Rings episode 10 Recap: Why did Do-jae betray Baek Sa-eon?
Episode 10 of When the Phone Rings begin with Hee-joo dreaming of having a happy, normal life with Sa-eon while unconscious. Do-jae lures the real Sa-eon to the place where Chairman Paik tried to kill him. Since Do-jae was after the Sa-eon who killed his twin, he had mistaken the two.
After overhearing the real Sa-eon's conversation with Sang-hun, the fish shop owner, Do-jae finds out that the one he actually was after was the real Sa-eon and not the spokesperson.
After the real Sa-eon comes to the location, Do-jae hits him in the head but is overpowered. Spokesperson Sa-eon soon reaches the location looking for Hee-joo and finds a black bag with Do-jae inside it. Still alive, Do-jae informs him about the real Sa-eon. Soon, the murderer, Sa-eon, starts the car with Hee-joo inside it. She escapes using her wits, and a fight starts between the two Sa-eons.
Do-jae intervenes and gets stabbed in the process. The murderer, Sa-eon, escapes. He recalls Kyu-jin visiting him and then Ui-yong's guards following her. He manages to escape again.
Kyu-jin argues with Ui-yong about the real Sa-eon and reveals that the spokesperson Sa-eon is also related to Chairman Baek. Meanwhile, spokesperson Sa-eon tries to get Do-jae to cooperate and help find the murderer Sa-eon's location.
In this episode of When the Phone Rings, the remains of the orphans killed by murderer Sa-eon are uncovered, and Sang-woo is called to identify them through their personal belongings. Yu-ri, aware of the situation, follows along and helps him through the task.
Hee-joo narrates everything to In-a, who recalls seeing a child every time Yu-jin (her brother who died in the accident) cried. She suspects the car accident was not an accident at all since Yu-jin must have seen the face of the real Sa-eon then.
As In-a and Hee-joo are conversing, Hee-joo's mother visits her and seems worried about her not being the daughter-in-law of the presidential candidate. After Hee-joo decides to stand up to her, she leaves. In-a remembers Sa-eon's text before the wedding and theorizes that Sa-eon is the one who sent the DNA reports to her.
When Sa-eon comes home, he finds the place lit with candles and Hee-joo wearing the black-and-white dress they brought in episode 5. Hee-joo asks him to marry her after all the fuss is over. Sa-eon, however, says no. Instead, he promises to propose, and they share a passionate kiss.
The next day, Do-jae confirms the identity of his twin among the rest of the remains. Sa-eon speaks to him again, asking him not to throw his life away. This time, Do-jae cooperates, and they are able to find one tracking device on the murderer, Sa-eon, still active.
Next, in When the Phone Rings, In-a and Hee-joo visit Chairman Hong and ask why the accident was covered up. In a flashback, Chairman Baek is shown telling Chairman Hong that he had killed the one who caused the accident. After finding that the murderer Sa-eon is still alive, Chairman Hong rushes to the memorial service of Chairman Baek and pints his rifle at Ui-yong. Hee-joo calls Spokesperson Sa-eon to the location.
As all of this is happening, a small blast happens at the service. Kyu-jin is aware of the presence of murderer Sa-eon, having seen him earlier at the location. As the guards try to evacuate the place, In-a is unable to find Hee-joo. The police inform the spokesperson Sa-eon that the murderer is at the same location. As he helps look for Hee-joo, he gets a call from the murderer in episode 10 of When the Phone Rings.
While holding a knife to Hee-joo's neck, he tells spokesperson Sa-eon that he shall kill her. Sa-eon, tracking his location, tells Hee-joo that he will come to her. She asks him not to since she wants to protect him this time. She crashes the car into the guardrail, and the car falls into the lake.
Sa-eon, devastated, holds a press conference revealing that he is not the son of Ui-yon, Baek Sa-eon. He also reveals Hee-joo's identity and asks everyone for cooperation and help in finding her. Episode 10 of When the Phone Rings end with a flashback of Sa-eon telling Hee-joo that he has found his purpose in being alive.
The next episode of When the Phone Rings is scheduled to be released on January 3, 2025.
