When the Phone Rings episode 8 recap: Sa-eon's real past

Episode 8 of When the Phone Rings starts with Sa-eon and Hee-joo having breakfast together. They decide to make the house a warm place to live. Sa-eon asks Hee-joo not to speak in front of anyone other than him. He also decides not to tell the police about the 406 phone.

It is revealed that the kidnapper could not visit Hee-joo that day to take back the phone since Sa-eon entered the hospital before him. Ui-yong and Kyu-jin watch the news describing the suspect in Sa-eon's case.

Hee-joo wakes from a nightmare and goes to check on Sa-eon. Sa-eon pulls Hee-joo into the bed and tells her he has taken a day off. While discussing what to plan for the day, he gets a call asking him to come to the office.

While Baek Ui-yong is speaking to the journalists, bouquets of flowers with slogans against Sa-eon are placed in the location. Meanwhile, Sa-eon reached his office to find Mr. Kang and his staff surprising him with their support. Right then, Do-jae enters and, taking Sa-eon aside, informs him that they have successfully tracked the kidnapper's location. Sa-eon decides to go alone to the location.

In this episode of When the Phone Rings, Hee-joo is contacted by the kidnapper again, asking if she knows what Sa-eon did. He also sends her a video. Hee-joo contacts Sang-woo and asks him to meet immediately.

Ui-yong asks Chairman Hong to handle the situation and blames him for it. In response, Hong asks him if Chairman Baek took care of the Achilles heel of the family. He promises to end it if it surfaces back again. Ui-yong asks him to pretend at least to pay him back for the favor he offered three years back.

Hee-joo meets Sang-woo and asks more about the case of the missing orphans. Sa-eon visits the location, which seems to be the same as the one Sang-woo took Yu-ri to research the missing orphans' case. He finds a video playing at the end of which Sa-eon is called a killer. The video, which seems to be from a variety show, mentions the missing orphans' case.

Hee-joo also reached the location with Sang-woo. However, since it gets late, they decide to come back another day. Sa-eon sees them leaving in a car. Hee-joo receives a call from Sa-eon but does not pick up. Sang-woo reveals that he knows that Hee-joo can speak. Sang-woo, who has been following them, suddenly overtakes to stop Sang-woo's car.

Hee-joo gets out of the vehicle despite Sang-woo asking her not to. Sa-eon takes her and asks Sang-woo never to meet Hee-joo again. Sang-woo asks him what his relationship with Hee-joo is. Sa-eon asks him if he knows the culprit of the missing twins' case and if he is trying to get revenge. He threatens him to stop and leaves.

Baek Sa-eon asks Hee-jo why she went to Sang-woo instead of him to ask about the case. Hee-joo tears up and tells him that she has been scared and anxious that Sa-eon will leave if she finds out about what he has been hiding. She tells him that she can handle everything and that he can show her his worst. Sa-eon tells her that if something happens to him, the only version of him that wants to be remembered is the one that belongs to Hee-joo.

In When the Phone Rings, In-a speaks to Chairman Hong and asks if he plans to marry Hee-joo to Sa-eon. In a flashback, Hong speaks to Ui-yong and Kyu-jin after In-a ran away. He mentions that Chairman Baek kneeled before him and promised to grant him any one wish when needed. In-a asks her why he stopped investigating the accident that caused her to lose her hearing and who made him do that.

In another flashback, Hong is shown holding a rifle at a man who is kneeling before him. In the present, Hong asks In-a if she knows Sa-eon and Hee-jo are being threatened in episode 8 of When the Phone Rings.

In an interview, Kyu-jin relays a message to Sa-eon promising to protect him. While making an announcement, Sa-eon decides to take questions about the case of the threats. He played the video the kidnapper shared and asked the reporters to help him.

Sa-eon's office receives a call with a message saying,

"He's alive."

After tracking the number, they found a business. Sa-eon recalls the fishing business owner and how he took care of him till he had to be taken away to Ui-yong. He remembers waking up one night and finding someone trying to drown another child in the lake.

Sa-eon rushes to the place to find it ablaze. Meanwhile, In-a visits Hee-joo to tell her why she refused the marriage. Sa-eon finds the owner lying on the floor unconscious. He tries to get him out of the house, but he also falls unconscious. This episode of When the Phone Rings ends with Hee-joo noticing Sa-eon gazing at her in all the retreat pictures.

The next episodes of When the Phone Rings are scheduled to be released on December 27 and 28.
