Former Baseball player Jang Won-sam was recently caught in a DUI accident, receiving negative reactions from Netizens for the alleged difference in coverage with BTS' Suga's drunk driving incident. On August 17, 2024, MBC News reported that Jang Won-sam was booked for causing a rear-end collision while drunk driving in Busan around 1:30 pm KST.
The next day, Jang Won-sam took to his social media to admit to his actions while apologizing to his fans and people concerned. He stated that he did not drink on the day of the accident but was hungover. He also said he would voluntarily leave the ongoing JTBC show Strongest Baseball.
BTS fans have shared their anger on social media because they believe the South Korean media is allegedly not covering Jang Won-sam's accident in the same way as BTS' Suga. Furthermore, some media agencies have allegedly spread misinformation regarding Suga's incident and have also apologized for the same.
Netizens also called out the anti-fans who spread hateful comments towards the Haegeum singer.
"Where are the "dui is dui" gang? Where are the journalists spreading misinfo? Demanding photo line? Where are the 1000 misleading articles? So we all can agree, it's not because ppl actually care, it's just an opportunity to hate on BTS." A fan said.
"It seems South Korean Media can't differentiate between a scooter and a car and between a fall and an accident." Another fan added.
"And little to no article or media coverage for that baseball player Jang Wonsam literally DROVE a car and crashed another vehicle while being intoxicated enough to get his driving license revoked. Double standards much?" A user stated.
Netizens continued to criticize the Korean media for allegedly not covering Jang Won-sam's drunk driving incident.
"We need to see 1400 articles in a week, actually more because it was an actual car and damage was done. I'm fuming right now." A user commented.
"10 days of people here telling us "in korea this is a big issue" & here u have another famous person from that country having no hate campaign against him & the accident was fuxking DRIVING. It was a big issue bc it was SUGA from BTS not bc that country gives a fuxk, end." A fan wrote.
"I wanna see all them articles. Keep watching on this. He was driving a actual car & caused damage. Ppl are conveying sympathy for him. Nah.. FK OUTTA HERE. Keep that same energy or just prove y'all are a bunch of hypocrites," a user said.
