The Boyfriend, a ground-breaking Japanese reality dating program on Netflix, captured viewers' attention with its candid depiction of same-sex relationships. Nine men in their 20s and 30s looking for love were featured in the Netflix reality series.
The Boyfriend, the first program of its kind in Japan, was filmed entirely in Tateyama, a charming beach town in Chiba Prefecture. Tateyama is known to be a great place to spend a leisurely staycation, with its stunning beaches, thermal springs, and lively local culture.
Moreover, Dai and Shun, the loved couple from the show, visited the location, spent time reliving their memories, and even uploaded the vlog to their YouTube channel, DaiShun, on August 13.
Tateyama: the scenic filming location of The Boyfriend
The Bōsō Peninsula in eastern Japan's Chiba Prefecture is home to the serene village of Tateyama, where the first season of The Boyfriend was filmed. The cast of the show traveled a bit, although all of the locales were in Tateyama itself.
Chiba Prefecture is open for exploration year-round, but the best views can be seen in the spring due to the vivid cherry blossoms or in the fall because of the stunning foliage. There is little rain and good weather during both seasons.
In addition, visitors take pleasure in regional celebrations like the Tateyama Hojo Festival, which features traditional music and dance and a spectacular procession of eight temples and fifteen gods.
The homestay known as Stay Ocean Tateyama is the major filming location of the Japanese television series The Boyfriend. The stunning property is conveniently explorable from several famous sites nearby.
Dai and Shun recently decided to visit Tateyama. After 10 months, they went back to the place where they made most of their initial memories. In the vlog, they walked across the green beaches at Chikura Shiokaze Okoku, after which they decided to have food at a local restaurant.
They roamed around the beach a while longer and then went to another location, where they sat, enjoyed the sunset, and spoke about their goals.
The cast shares their experience from The Boyfriend
In an exclusive interview Netflix released on August 8, the participants of the show came together to discuss how they felt after the completion of the show.
Shun revealed how his relationships were frequently egotistical and insensitive to other people's sentiments. However, his perspective shifted after meeting Dai.
“My relationships were often selfish, and I didn't see the people around me. Meeting Dai transformed my perspective on love. Now I strive to respect what the person I love thinks and feels while maintaining a balance of mutual love,” Shun said.
According to Dai, all of the contestants have become good friends and get together for dinner whenever their schedules allow. Alan said that they will be going on a trip together shortly. Gensei went back to his native Taiwan to continue his career as a makeup artist.
Gensei became close friends with Taeheon despite not finding love on the show. Taeheon also said that they message each other every day and exchange updates on their daily activities. Usak, Ryota, Alan, and Ikuo conversed on how the show altered their perspectives on love in the meantime.
