Which couples from The Boyfriend are still together? Cast shares their outlook on love and friendship following reality show appearance

The Boyfriend aired on Netflix on July 9, 2024, and showed nine men living at a beachside villa to find true love. Japan's first same-gender reality dating show became an instant hit among global viewers. On August 8, Netflix TUDUM released an exclusive interview where the cast shared their views on love and relationships.

The show ended with two endgame couples: Dai & Shun and Alan & Kazuto. However, Kazuto told TUDUM that his relationship with Alan had not gone any further, but they both remained good friends.

"While things didn’t progress into a romantic relationship with Alan, he remains an invaluable and dear friend."

Meanwhile, Shun shared how Dai changed his "perspective on love." Dai, 22, a university student, met Shun on the sets of The Boyfriend. The two left the show as a couple and are still dating, which delighted their fans.

Shun shared how his romantic relationships have often been self-centered, and he would often disregard others' feelings. But after meeting Dai, his views improved.

"My relationships were often self-centered, and I couldn’t see the people around me. Meeting Dai changed my entire perspective on love. Now I strive to respect what my loved one thinks and feels while maintaining a balance of mutual love," Shun said.

The Boyfriend season 1 consisted of nine participants: Dai, Shun, Usak, Alan, Kazuto, Taeheon, Ikuo, Ryota, and Gensei. Kazuto told TUDUM that his only regret from the show is the missed opportunity to get to know Usak. He said he now wishes he had raised his hand to engage in the coffee truck shift task.

Dai revealed that all the contestants developed close friendships and often met for meals whenever their respective schedules permitted. Alan revealed that they are planning to get together soon for a trip.

Gensei returned to his home country of Taiwan to continue working as a professional hair and makeup artist. Despite being unable to find love in the show, Gensei found a good friend in Taeheon. Furthermore, Taeheon mentioned texting Gensei every day and sharing their day-to-day with each other.

Meanwhile, Usak, Ryota, Alan, and Ikuo shared how the show had changed their perspectives on love.

"How crucial it is to think about what makes others happy instead of what just pleases me. I’ve realized I should avoid sending Line messages if I see someone I’m interested in –– on a date, or out and about –– in the future," Ryota said.

The Boyfriend Season 1 aired 10 episodes from July 9 to July 30, 2024, and had five show hosts:
