On Tuesday, July 9, HYBE's recent announcement regarding their upcoming collaboration with The Grammy Museum excluded NewJeans, which sparked controversy on the internet. The agency revealed that their collaboration will be one of the biggest exhibitions to date, showcasing the items belonging to the HYBE artists.
The poster accompanying the announcement revealed that all the artists they house, from ZICO to the upcoming K-pop girl group, KASTEYE, are in this exhibition. However, the only missing artist is NewJeans, the K-pop girl group housed under HYBE's subsidiary, ADOR. Many fans were angry and disappointed at the lack of promotions and respect for the group and their artists.
Fans also explained this alleged biased treatment might be because of the recent feud between HYBE and the ADOR CEO, Min Hee-jin. Therefore, to address and show their concerns over NewJeans' exclusion, fans are using "RESPECT YOUR ARTISTS," "NEWJEANS DESERVES RESPECT," etc.
Here's how people reacted to the same:
"Hybe should be thankful to have new jeans in his damn company, they are the only girl group that is showing their face in that company, while other groups are criticized for not knowing how to sing and being pitiful," said a fan on X.
"@HYBEOFFICIALtwt, you should have left the management rights to MHJ and avoided the psychological damage to the members and this constant sabotage," added another netizen.
"WE DEMAND RESPECT! NewJeans is one of the most influential groups in kpop, and one of the most famous in HYBE!" added another X user.
More fans expressed concerns about the group's future with HYBE and stated mistreatment shouldn't be overlooked.
"My brother in christ, the fact that this is the first time that company has a successful worldwide girl group lmao, they really dont deserve my jeanies," said a fan on X.
"Including katseye and not newjeans gotta be criminal," added another X user.
"y'all in the quotes are kinda forgetting hybe also have a contract with newjeans and they have to support them and promote them until the contract is over right?" added another netizen on X
HYBE also explained that NewJeans' exclusion was because of their label's decisions.
