ADOR, the management agency of the popular girl group NewJeans, has reportedly appointed a new CEO, Kim Joo-young, to replace Min Hee-jin. According to Sports KyungHyang, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, ADOR, a subsidiary agency under HYBE LABELS, confirmed their new CEO to be Kim Joo-young, who was the Chief Human Resources Officer.
In an official statement, they said:
“On the 27th, we held a board meeting and appointed Kim Joo-young, an executive director of ADOR, as the new CEO.”
In the first half of 2024, HYBE LABELS and the former CEO of ADOR were in a legal dispute, and the internal organization of the agency was disrupted due to the consequences.
According to the SBS news, Kim Joo-young is known for her Human Resources expertise and acquired skills through her experience working in different industries. CEO Kim Joo-young has previously worked as the HR team leader at Yuhan-Kimberly, a South Korean health and hygiene company.
Kim Joo-young was also the HR headquarters manager at Krafton, a video game publishing and holding company. She will take the role of stabilizing the situation at ADOR while reorganizing the internal organization.
What role will former CEO Min Hee-jin play at ADOR?
On August 27, 2024, ADOR rolled out surprising news about the replacement of Min Hee-jin as the CEO of the company. Previously, she won the injunction that prevented HYBE LABELS from exercising their voting rights to remove her from the position of CEO.
However, on August 27, ADOR held its board meeting, appointing Kim Joo-young as the new CEO of the agency. However, Min Hee-jin is recognized for her creative abilities and will continue working as the in-house creative director deemed “NewJeans’ Mom” in the industry.
ADOR stated,
“Former CEO Min Hee-jin will step down as CEO, but will retain her position as an inside director of ADOR. She will also continue to be in charge of producing NewJeans.”
They further explained that except for ADOR, other agencies under HYBE LABELS had distinct production and management. They added that since it is a multi-label corporation, it was only fair for the agency to follow the same principle.
“Along with this, ADOR’s internal organisation will separate production and management. This is a multi-label operation principle that has been consistently applied to all other labels, but ADOR has been an exception where the CEO has been in charge of both production and management.”
The agency also stated that they would do their utmost to support the K-pop girl group NewJeans for their upcoming activities.
“With this personnel change and reorganisation, ADOR plans to spare no support for NewJeans’ growth and greater success.”
According to Chosun Biz, Min Hee-jin previously shared her opinion on separating the K-pop group’s production and management. She reportedly stated:
“Entertainment is something that is done with people, and it is not about running a factory to make a product, so understanding the business is fundamental. Producing and management should not be separated. I have talent for management.”
Meanwhile, NewJeans marked their second debut anniversary on Thursday, July 22, 2024. They previously dropped their EP Supernatural, their first Japanese double-single with the song Supernatural and Right Now, on June 21, 2024.
