ZEROBASEONE's Matthew became a trend thanks to BTS’ RM's response to a fan's comment on the fan community app Weverse. On September 18, RM actively replied to fans' posts on Weverse from the military, completing his services.
The BTS leader noticed a fan's letter who identified herself as Julie, about Matthew, and out of curiosity, he asked:
“Who's Matthew?”
As RM's response went viral on X, BTS fans created hilarious memes around RM, Matthew, and Julie. Later that day, Julie took to her X account and revealed that the Matthew she mentioned in her letter was the ZEROBASEONE member.
Matthew born on May 28, 2002, is a 22 years old South Korean-Canadian vocalist and dancer. He debuted with the popular rookie boy group ZEROBASEONE on July 10, 2023.

Matthew’s Korean name is Seok Woo-hyun and ranked number 3 on the survival program Boys Planet which formed the boy group ZEROBASEONE. On August 26, 2024, he and his group dropped their album CINEMA PARADISE, which recorded a million sales becoming their fourth consecutive album to reach this feat.

On September 18, a BTS fan Julie made a post on Weverse as RM was actively replying to the fans. However, instead of RM, she accidentally wrote of Matthew, where she expressed her love for the ZEROBASEONE member.
She wrote,
“My dear Matthew, I always want to be by your side. Spending time with you makes my world much brighter and happier. The love and happiness you give me are so precious. Your smile, your eyes, and your voice mean something special to me. Wherever you are, I always think of you, and I want you to be happy.”
She received RM's response which was all over social media as everyone was curious as to who Matthew was. On September 18, Julie took to her X account @seokmyboji to explain what went wrong and also apologized to the idols and all the fans. She stated that she wrote two different posts for the two K-pop idols but as the BTS leader was active on Weverse, she hastily pasted the wrong message.
She said,
“In my notes app I have different copy & paste for different idols and different messages and i copied the wrong one (with matthew name on it) and i didnt even check bc i was panicking (i love joon) and boom namjoon replied and yeah…… MY BAD KINGS I LOVE BOTH OF YALL.”
Previously in April 2024, Matthew started a livestream to show his Pokemon collection upon a fan’s request. Pictures of him for the live session had gone viral on X. Following the live stream, Julie sent him a message on Mnet plus chat and informed him he was trending on X, she also reminded him that she was the one who requested for him to show his Pokemon collection.
Matthew replied to this by saying,
“I saw your tweet, u should be on our promotion team. Love you sweetheart.”
