On October 5, 2024, former South Korean President Moon Jae-in's daughter, Moon Da-hye, was booked for colliding her car into a taxi while driving under the influence. Yonhap News reported that her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level was over 0.14%, which could lead to her license revocation and a severe penalty.
Yonhap News reported that the taxi driver was hurt and Moon Da-hye was arrested by the police on Saturday, October 5, 2024. According to authorities, Moon Da-hye's car hit a taxi while changing lanes in the Itaewon area of Seoul's Yongsan district at 2:51 am, injuring the taxi driver.
She has been charged with drunk driving and will soon be summoned for questioning by the Yongsan Police Station on October 7, 2024. Maeil Kyungjae News reported that Moon Da-hye (41) has already been facing interrogation because her former husband (Mr. Seo) was allegedly hired out of turn at Thai Star Jet Airlines.
For the unversed, Moon Jae-in served as the 12th President of South Korea from 2017 to 2022. He is married to Kim Jung-sook, a South Korean classical singer. They have a daughter, Moon Da-hye, and a son, Moon Joon-yong.

In the aforementioned case of Moon Da-hye's husband (Mr. Seo), the prosecution claimed there was preferential hiring in Thai Jet Air due to the appointment of former Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-jik as chairman of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency in March 2018. Maeil Kyungjae News reported that Moon Da-hye and her husband moved to Thailand in 2018 after his appointment to lead the Thai-based airlines.
Furthermore, the prosecutors are looking into former President Moon Jae-in for possible participation in a bribery case as well. They claimed that his former son-in-law, Mr. Seo, was given preferential employment at T'way Air aka Thai Jet Air in return for helping the airline's founder get a significant government job.
On August 30, 2024, the Jeonju District Prosecutor's Office began searching Moon Da-hye's house. This search and seizure took place four years after the South Korean police and prosecutors received accusations about her then-husband, Mr. Seo.
Currently, Moon Da-hye's drunk driving case has made the situation dire as she already has been facing accusations due to her former husband.
Moon Jae-in served as the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs and Chief of Staff to President Roh Moo-hyun, before he was elected as the President in 2017. In terms of economic policy, Moon Jae-in reduced the maximum workweek from 68 to 52 hours, increased the minimum wage by more than 16%, and supported reforms favoring the chaebols or conglomerates.
Furthermore, Reuters reported that Moon Jae-in garnered recognition globally during the COVID-19 epidemic in South Korea. He restricted South Korean travelers from entering the country and also authorized AstraZeneca vaccination shots first on the healthcare staff and hospitalized patients.
