On September 6, 2024, Megan Thee Stallion dropped her latest single, Neva Play (feat. RM of BTS). The song climbed to No. 1 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart on September 7, in over 86 countries. Meanwhile, BTS leader Kim Namjoon aka RM featured on the official music video of Neva Play as an Anime avatar.
The Neva Play music video was reportedly filmed 10 days before its official release. The MV director, Warren Fu, posted on his Instagram profile (@warrenjfu) and mentioned his surreal experience of shooting the MV 10 days ago. He wrote,
"I can’t believe we shot this 10 days ago. But with a great team and positive vibes we turned this around in record time! Thank you to everyone that worked on this."
Since the artist enlisted in the South Korean military on December 11, 2023, he was featured in the MV as a male lead from an Anime Japanese manga. The comic-book-esque video showed the BTS star tied to a chair in handcuffs with a toothpick in his mouth. He was surrounded by several goons, wearing a skull mask. Namjoon opened his verse with "What's up, Stallion?" and got to demolishing the goons after breaking free of his handcuffs.
Fans were impressed to see an Anime avatar of the BTS leader in an action genre while non-BTS fans were stunned to hear Namjoon's deep, raspy voice. They flooded social media, enquiring about the BTS frontman and one of them wrote,
"Damn Megan what is this song & who's this guy he sounds so BOSSY"
Several non-fans were mesmerized by the Heaven rapper-songwriter's deep voice register and mentioned that they understood why the BTS ARMY hype up the band members so much.
"All imma say is i understand the armys now and i'm sorry for doubting y'all," one X user wrote.
"Just went to RM’s instagram and how does that sexy deep voice belong to that lil sweet baby???" one X user commented.
Others added that they are now new "Army member" and also apologized for being unaware of BTS' artistic range and versatile discography.
"All of a sudden I’m an army member or whatever," one X user added.
"I was not expecting this lol. Of course I knew he was asian but that voice and this face crazy lol," another X user said.
"BTS members I owe you an apology, I was not familiar with your game," another X user stated.
