Who is Wendy? All you need to know about the Red Velvet member set to feature on BTS’ Jin’s debut solo album, ‘Happy’

In a surprising announcement, Red Velvet's Wendy is set to feature on BTS Jin's highly anticipated debut solo album, HAPPY. The 30-year-old singer will join Jin in the song titled Heart on the Window.

HAPPY was announced on October 14, 2024, by BIGHIT MUSIC. The album is set to release on November 15, 2024. According to the agency, the six-track album is an invitation on "a journey of discovering happiness." The album set will be available in three different versions.

Reportedly Jin and Wendy had a face-to-face meeting to discuss the collaboration. South Korean media outlet Dispatch reported on Wedndy's involvement in HAPPY and wrote:

“Wendy, as a featured artist, will support Jin’s solo album. Known for his fresh, boyish tone and soft voice, he is expected to create “exceptional synergy” with Wendy, who is renowned for her outstanding vocal ability and beautiful tone. All eyes are on the range he will showcase with this solo album.”

Fans are now eagerly awaiting the unique sound and creativity this unexpected pairing of Jin and Wendy will bring.

Wendy, born Son Seung-wan on February 21, 1994, is a South Korean singer. She debuted as the main vocalist of the popular girl group Red Velvet in 2014 under SM Entertainment.

Red Velvet initially debuted with four members: Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy. In March 2015, Yeri was added, completing the current five-member lineup. Dumb Dumb, Red Flavor, Rookie, Automatic, Psycho, and Bad Boy are some of the group's prominent songs.

Wendy grew up in South Korea and Canada, making her fluent in both Korean and English. Her vocal abilities have been highlighted through numerous solo projects, collaborations, and OSTs (Original Soundtracks). Songs like Written In The Stars with John Legend and her emotional ballad Like Water, showcase her wide vocal range.

Alongside Red Velvet, Wendy is also a member of SM Entertainment's supergroup Got the Beat. In addition to her singing, Wendy is known for her warm, caring personality, because of which she is fondly called the "mother" of Red Velvet by fans.

In 2019, she suffered a serious accident during rehearsals for the SBS Gayo Daejeon, which led to a hiatus from public activities. However, she made a comeback in 2021, with her debut EP Like Water, much to the admiration of fans and the K-pop community.

Over the years, Wendy has expanded her portfolio and dabbled in several TV roles. She was a panelist on the reality show We Got Married from 2015 to 2016. From 2016 to 2017, she joined the cast of South Korean variety show Trick & True.

In 2021, soon after her return from the health-related hiatus, Wendy started her radio program Wendy's Youngstreet and aired it till 2023.

In July 2023, she made her theatrical debut in the musical Rebecca in which she played the role of "I". The musical was listed for multiple shows between August to November 2023.

Red Velvet released their fourth album Chill Kill which was released on November 13, 2023. Earlier this year on March 12, Wendy released her second EP Wish You Hell.
