Ahn Hee-yeon, better known as Hani from the K-pop group EXID and a well-known actress, has recently come under fire online due to controversy surrounding her fiancé, Yang Jae-woong. Yang, a prominent psychiatrist, and his hospital are allegedly involved in a patient’s death, leading to intense scrutiny of the couple, who are scheduled to marry in September.
Meanwhile, Yang is not only a psychiatrist but also co-hosts the YouTube channel Yang Bros’ Mental World with his brother, Yang Jae-jin. He is also a familiar face on variety shows like Heart Signal and Real Couple Story - The War of Roses.
On July 26, 2024, SBS reported that a 33-year-old Korean woman reportedly died at a psychiatric hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, which netizens have identified as Yang Jae-woong’s hospital.
Consequently, many have taken to Hani's social media accounts to advise her against proceeding with the marriage.
The actress is facing criticism from netizens who are advising her against marrying her fiancé. Many are urging her to reconsider her decision and suggesting that it’s not too late to cancel the wedding.
More about Hani's relationship with Yang Jae-woong and the ongoing investigation
Hani and Yang Jae-woong publicly confirmed their relationship in June 2022. On June 1, 2024, the singer-actress announced their engagement via her personal Instagram account, revealing plans to marry Yang Jae-woong through a handwritten note addressing the fans.
The EXID member has been openly sharing details about her relationship with her fiancé on social media. In November 2023, she marked their thousand-day anniversary with a celebratory post on her account.
Meanwhile, the woman who was admitted for addiction treatment reportedly died due to negligence by the hospital staff. CCTV footage allegedly showed that despite her complaints of pain, staff administered medication, restrained her, and left her unattended.
SBS News reported that although the restraints were removed an hour later due to her bleeding from the nose and struggling to breathe, no additional measures were taken before she was released from the room.
When she lost consciousness, the staff responded too late, only performing CPR after a five-minute delay. The patient ultimately died from intestinal pseudo-obstruction. In an interview with SBS News, the patient’s mother noted that they chose this hospital because of its reputation for treating addiction.
Although the report did not provide the full names of the hospital or the medical staff involved, it included images of the “W Jin Hospital” building and blurred screenshots of the hospital’s now-inaccessible website, fueling further speculation.
The details that the psychiatrist is highly renowned and the hospital offers specialized addiction treatment have contributed to the rapid spread of the allegations online. As of now, the couple has not issued any official statements.
