SEVENTEEN is all over social media for the storyline of their music video Eyes on you. On October 20, 2024, PLEDIS Entertainment dropped the highly awaited music video of SEVENTEEN’s B-side track Eyes on you from their 12th mini album SPILL THE FEELS on YouTube.
The Eyes on you music video depicted a vibrant side where the members are seen partying on a rooftop. However, on the darker side, it also showcased different scenarios like a glimpse from a funeral, Mingyu getting into an accident, Vernon seemingly parting ways with his lover, and more.
Due to the nonlinear format of the music video the SEVENTEEN fandom was left in confusion. The CARATs started to propose different theories that would be the message behind the video. Many netizens believed that the storyline of Eyes on you suggested that each member of the group seemed to look out for each other in every situation.
“Whose funeral are they all attending," a fan questioned
“Woozi who is seen having a good time at the party... has lost someone special to him (he is seen attending the funeral) He is trying to forget everything and move on.," a fan said.
“The Woozi storyline, it seems like he lost someone close to him.. as in his memories a past funeral is shown.. so maybe this bonding and meeting new people is his 5th stage of grieving where he has accepted it and going to live life…," another fan added.
Netizens also suggested that the storyline of SEVENTEEN's Eyes on you music video could be an ode to the film I Origins.
“Op said that the music seems to be a homage towards the movie 'I Origins'. It is a Sci-fi romance film where you can know a person's past life through the color and shape of their irises. Even the title, Eyes on You, is somewhat similar to I Origins," an X user wrote.
“In summary, the "Eyes on You" music video pays homage to the movie "I Origins" and tells a story of intense and determined love, promising to find each other again even if death separates them. The party scenes provide glimpses of the joyful times before death," another user wrote.
“Since most of the members have scars on their faces, it could be related to the part "give me your first scar". This means wanting to know someone's significant experiences or past pains/events to emphasize or show deep connection that they always have their each other," a fan said.
Many other theories on the plot of the Eyes on you music video emerged online hinting at a strong brotherly bond shared between the members who have each other's back.
“Each of them has their own life (time, problems, goals, feelings, mindset, etc) but they all find happiness in each other’s presence. no matter what, how, when, or where, they’ll always keep their eyes on one another, giving support & love," a fan stated.
“I'm thinking that this is a prequel to Love, Money, Fame ~ where the boys are telling us that Love is above money and fame ~ their brotherly love towards each other seems to be the theme of each scene in the Eyes On You MV, an X user wrote.
“So basically each member who is going through something has a member keeping their eyes on them!," another X user added.
