On October 25, 2024, FNC Entertainment announced that F.T. ISLAND's Choi Minhwan will temporarily withdraw from media appearances following troubling allegations from his ex-wife, former LABOUM member Yulhee. Minhwan expressed regret for disappointing fans, and FNC apologized for the distress caused to the public.
As per Koreaboo, the statement from the label read,
"While it is difficult for us to fully grasp the personal matters related to the couple, Choi Minhwan feels a sense of responsibility for disappointing many fans and viewers and wishes to suspend all media activities, including the broadcasts he appears in with his children."
The artist's exit includes his departure from KBS’s family show The Return of Superman, where he has appeared alongside his children since April. KBS confirmed that Minhwan’s segments on the program would no longer air and that no further episodes with him had been filmed.
All we know so far about the allegations on F.T. Island's Minhwan by his ex-wife Yulhee
Yulhee recently released audio recordings allegedly documenting Minhwan's repeated visits to adult entertainment venues, which she claims were a significant factor in their divorce. According to her, the tapes, dated between July and August 2022, feature the idol arranging visits to various establishments. He also discussed payments for services, sometimes while concealing his activities from her.
In a video shared on her YouTube channel, @yulheeh, she alleged that her ex-husband not only frequented these establishments during their marriage but also behaved inappropriately in front of family members. That often left her feeling humiliated.
Yulhee further discussed the emotional toll these experiences had on her, expressing that her distress over the revelations influenced her decision to seek a divorce. As translated by Koreaboo, she said,
"I wanted to take the kids with me. At that time, they suggested KRW 50.0 million (about USD 36,200) for me to get a house upon divorce, and KRW 2.00 million (about USD 1,450) a month in child support. But thinking about things realistically, to be honest, it only sounded like I would to die like that."
She further continued,
"Sure I could get a rental house with that money, but rent will deplete it over time. The only way for me to secure the needed assets as ideal and get out with the kids was a lawsuit, but I was so tired."
The agency concluded by acknowledging the gravity of the situation, and asking for understanding as Minhwan reflects on his actions.
FNC has not clarified the artist's concert obligations further, leaving the scheduled F.T. ISLAND performance on October 26 in Taiwan in uncertainty.
