On July 30, Billboard published an article stating that BTS Jimin's latest album, MUSE, and its title track, WHO, were assessed as a potential contender for No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart. Billboard staff and music critics lauded WHO for its catchy tune and meandering sound effects and hailed it as a "deserved" track to claim the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
"I’m really hoping it takes No. 1 at some point, just because I love to see big rewards for an artist who took the risk to release music away from the group they’re known for being in. Also, it’s a great song from a great album. It deserves it," said Rania Aniftos.
She further discussed the song's potential success on U.S. radio with Hannah Dailey, Kyle Denis, Jason Lipshutz, and Andrew Unterberger. Kyle Denis noted that WHO would perform well on the radio, which would help it to get No. 1 on the Hot 100.
However, Jason Lipshutz highlighted U.S. pop radio's "historical reluctance" to play K-pop singles on its platform, adding that if the platform accepts the song, then it will be successful for both parties.
Nevertheless, the BTS ARMY trended the "SEND WHO TO THE RADIO" hashtag on X worldwide and tagged HYBE and Geffen Records to send the song to the radio. Fans also alleged that HYBE neglected Jimin's new release and hindered it from further success.
Fans were enraged. However, Billboard's latest article further incensed their reaction, and they claimed that HYBE has been "neglecting the hit."
"SEND WHO TO RADIO NOW! Even Billboard, Jimmy Fallon and multiple music journalists have said it should be on radio! It isn’t just fans, the entire industry can see that you’re neglecting this hit," one fan wrote on X.
"Media is catching up and pointing out that WHO deserves radio, why is Jimin's label the only one ignoring it? It doesnt benefit them either, so why?" another fan questioned.
"'so if history to go by'AYEAH, HYBE WILL NEVER SEND JIMIN'S SONGS TO RADIO," one other fan highlighted.
Others rallied behind the hashtag and demanded HYBE to do its "job properly for once" and promote the song to increase its chances of charting on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Literally everyone is calling you out. Do your job properly for ONCE," one fan retorted.
"The billboard is speaking. What are you guys waiting for, huh?" one other fan wrote.
"No but seriously what would ever possess @GeffenRecords @BIGHIT_MUSIC to not send Who to the radio. I AM SO CONFUSED!??" another fan added.
