On July 1, 2024, YG Entertainment reportedly confirmed the transfer of the trademark rights for the stage names, including G-Dragon and GD, to the renowned South Korean idol, G-Dragon. A representative from the agency reported to the media outlet TV Daily and mentioned:

"It's true that we have suddenly transferred the trademark rights to G-Dragon, including his stage name G-Dragon, GD, etc."

Previously, the South Korean media outlet Ten Asia reported that YG Entertainment made a decision based on the judgment, which added the value of the trademark rights would be maximized when transferred to the male artist.

YG Entertainment has transferred the trademark rights of stage names to G-dragon without any compensation, and they did not charge anything from the male artist. The artist could freely utilize his trademark for future activities, such as releasing an album, track, or other records.

Meanwhile, G-Dragon, aka Kwon Ji-yong, departed from YG Entertainment on December 20, 2023, following the expiration of his exclusive contract in June of the same year. Subsequently, he officially joined Galaxy Corporation and announced that the idol would soon make his comeback the following year.

He was named a visiting professor for two years by the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in June 2024. He would provide leadership lectures to students of the university.

In recent news, the male artist was occupied preparing for an album to make a comeback in 2024. According to TV Daily, the idol appeared on the tvN entertainment program, 'Let's Have a Drink Via Phone Call,' where he confessed to focusing on his main job this year, naturally increasing the expectations of the K-pop Community.

Kwon Ji-yong is widely popular domestically and internationally as a rapper, songwriter, singer, and entrepreneur and is regarded as the King of K-pop. The idol debuted in 2006 and rose to recognition as the leader of the boy band BigBang. The idol unveiled his first solo album, Heartbreaker, in 2009, which earned him multiple accolades, including Album of the Year at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

The male artist's discography, includes Coup d'Etat, GD & TOP, Shine a Light, Ist World Tour Commemorative Vinyl LP- One of a Kind, One of a Kind, Kwon Ji-yong, This Love, A Boy, Breathe, Butterfly, That XX, Crooked, Who You?, Untitled 2014 and other records.


He has been described as a genius singer-songwriter by The Korea Times, as he played a crucial role in producing tracks that were considered unusual at the beginning of the K-pop industry. He paved the way for the self-production of music instead of being manufactured by K-pop bands or their agencies.

Many artists have referred to his work as influential, including Zico, GOT7's BamBam, ZEROBASEONE's Ricky, ASTRO's Rocky, Jaden Smith, Younha, Kim Eana, and others.
