On June 11, 2024, Naver reported that Seoul's Mayor Oh Se-hoon took to social media to congratulate BTS’ oldest member Jin on completing his military service. Jin, who served as an instructor at the 5th Infantry Division’s recruit training center, is all set to be discharged on June 12.
The mayor wrote a personalized and heartfelt message via Facebook. Expressing his delight and appreciation towards not only the Astronaut singer but the entire BTS, he said:
"In an era filled with bad news, you yourself are the 'Good News.'"
Meanwhile, after having successfully completed 548 days in the military, there’s a high-scale fanfare surrounding the return of BTS' Jin.
Seoul's mayor is added to the list of people congratulating BTS' Jin for his military service term completion
Jin was the first BTS member to enlist in the military on December 13, 2022. After 18 months of service, he has now become the first member to complete his service and prepare for his return to the music industry.
Seoul’s Mayor Oh shared his congratulatory wishes on Facebook at 1:28 PM on June 11 towards the soon-to-be discharged star. In a post titled "Good News," he included a photo of the BTS hyung with fellow recruits, including Kang Seung-yoon of the boy group WINNER, taken during his time as an instructor.
Expressing his excitement, Mayor Oh Se-hoon wrote:
"I’m delighted to hear that Jin, the eldest member of BTS, is returning. BTS has also served as honorary tourism ambassadors for Seoul, deepening our city's connection with the group."
He acknowledged the global impact of BTS, noting that while military service is a duty for all healthy South Korean men, the temporary absence of these seven artists, who inspire millions worldwide, was felt by many.
"It's commendable that all seven members, without any exceptions or privileges, chose to serve their country. This sets a great example, and many, including myself, applaud their dedication," he said, referring to all the BTS members, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
Mayor Oh also highlighted the positive impact BTS has had during challenging times. He looked forward to the group's future as a complete unit, saying he expressed his eagerness for the return of BTS as a complete group.
Not just as musicians but as artists who convey meaningful messages through their songs like Love Yourself and Life Goes On. He mentioned that since it was a joyful day, he decided to write the message and also planned to listen to BTS' Dynamite to celebrate.
Jin will dive back into his musical career immediately after his discharge, participating in the "2024 FESTA" event at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul on June 13.
The discharge dates for the remaining BTS members are as follows, with the group expected to reunite in about a year. J-Hope will return on October 17, 2024; RM and V on June 10, 2025; Jimin and Jungkook on June 11, 2025; and Suga on June 21, 2025.
