On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the South Korean media outlet Segye Ilbo reported BTS' Jimin donated 100 million won in scholarship money to the Gyeongnam Future Education Foundation/Gyeongnam Office of Education for the upliftment of low-income students in the Gyeongnam region. The donation was made through the idol's father, Park Hyun-soo.

As per the details provided by the Gyeongnam Office of Education to the outlet, Jimin's father, Park Hyun-soo, called Superintendent Park Jong-hoon's secretary's office on April 30, 2024, and disclosed Jimin's intention to donate 100 million won to the students residing in the neighborhood in challenging circumstances.

A month later, Jimin's father visited the Office of the Superintendent of Education on behalf of his son and reportedly donated a scholarship worth 100 million won on Thursday at the private donation ceremony.

The news quickly spread on social media, with fans showering Jimin with compliments for his generosity. An ARMY stated that the Serendipity singer has a pure heart, and they wished that the idol knew about the impact he had on people's lives.

Netizens further praised the BTS member for his philanthropic act and stated how the idol continued donating to needy people even while serving military service and to a place that was not his hometown.

Gyeongnam Office of Education plans to utilize BTS' Jimin's donation for the I Like Account Project

Gyeongnam Office of Education planned to utilize the BTS' member's donation for the I Like Account Project, which has been described as an educational asset-building program that would provide funds for college living and advancement for low-income high school students.

According to Segye Ilbo, Superintendent Park Jong-hoon from the Gyeongnam Office of Education expressed their gratitude to the idol and stated:

"Thank you for sharing your warm heart for the future of children. We will use the donation to help the growth of low-income high school students."

Meanwhile, an official from the Gyeongnam Office of Education stated to Yonhap News that the BTS member donated with pure intentions, as he has no connection to the province, and stated:

"Singer Jimin spent his school days in Busan and has no direct connection to Gyeongnam, but we understand that he made this donation with pure intentions for students in the province."

It is not the first time the singer has contributed to society. He has been known for donating scholarship money and books for students from low-income households to other offices of education in different cities, including Busan, Jeonnam, Gangwon, and Chungbuk.


Jimin began his mandatory military service on December 12, 2023, alongside fellow group member Jungkook. After concluding the five weeks of basic training, he was awarded the best trainee of his unit and the Honor of Exemplary with Commendation from the Chief of Division. The idol was deployed to the Fifth Infantry Division and is expected to be discharged from his duty in 2025.
