On August 23, 2024, BTS' Min Yoongi, well-known by his stage name, Suga, re-entered the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart at No. 6 for his track, Snooze. His longtime friend and one of the music producers of Yoongi's debut solo album, D-DAY, EL CAPITXN posted the screenshot of the Billboard chart on Instagram.
Additionally, Jang Yi-jeong, aka EL CAPITXN, edited the caption from one of his pinned Instagram posts from Suga's solo world tour in 2023. In the caption, he wrote:
"Stay tuned until the next Yoongi performance... Everything will be okay" (translation taken from Google Translate).
Fans were moved by EL CAPITXN's gesture of showing his support towards the BTS rapper amid the latter's ongoing DUI case. For the unversed, Yoongi was charged with drunk driving an electric kickboard/scooter on August 6, 2024. His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level was at 0.08%, as reported by MBC News.
Meanwhile, one fan asserted their support for the BTS rapper and wrote on X:
"You'll never walk alone yoongi"
Others lauded EL CAPITXN for coming through for his friend when the BTS rapper was criticized by the public and media.
"Yoongi was the one who offered el capitxn to pay all his hospital bills just because he wanted el capitxn to never drop his dream even though yoongi himself didn't have a lot of money back then. and now el capitxn is publicly showing yoongi his support during hard times. this is so precious. their friendship is so precious," one fan wrote.
"Just woke up, haven't seen any pics thankfully, but I know what happened based on everyone's anger. Now I see this post by his close friend and I just want to cry. He didn't deserve any of this. We all need to channel these emotions into streaming. Stream Haegeum," another ARMY added.
"I'm sure the members are also very mad right now but they can't speak up. Prayers to YG AND BTS," one other ARMY said.
Others underscored that Suga must have seen how the BTS ARMY has been defending him from backlash since the news of his incident broke out.
"I hope Yoongi is okay, I hope rn he is surrounded & comforted by his loved ones. ARMY got your back Yoongi," one fan commented.
"'EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY' Thank you Yijeong-ah. Please take care of your 'appa' Yoongi. Tell Yoongi we will always be supporting him," another fan added.
"Since el capitxn posted its 100% confirmed yoongi saw all our support and that armys are on his side," one other fan stated.
BTS' Suga appears at the Yongsan Police Station for interrogation
On August 23, 2024, the Yongsan Police Station summoned BTS' Suga for further interrogation. He arrived at the precinct and addressed the reporters' photo line. He apologized for drunk driving a foldable electric kickboard/scooter.
For the uninitiated, a photo line is an illegal media practice where reporters subject the individual to a "public trial." It is reportedly defamatory and only exists in Korea.
The police interrogated Suga for three hours from 7.45 pm to 10.54 pm (KST), before he left the precinct. Meanwhile, Korea Dispatch live-streamed the footage on YouTube from outside the police station.
The BTS ARMY was enraged by the treatment BTS' Suga was subjected to as reporters gathered around him at the police station. They trended multiple hashtags and phrases like WE LOVE YOU SUGA, Suga of BTS, and more on X globally to show their support.
Additionally, Korean netizens reportedly lashed out at the Korean media for the same. Newsis reported that the international media raised concerns about the BTS rapper and stated that the Korean media has been targeting him.
In other news, BTS' Min Yoongi enlisted in the South Korean military on September 22, 2023. He is serving as a social service worker due to his old shoulder injury, which categorized him unfit for regular military duties. He will be discharged after completing 21 months of mandatory enlistment in June 2025.
