On August 22, 2024, Disney+ aired the final episode of the Korean limited series No Way Out: The Roulette. The dark thriller K-drama stars Cho Jin-woong as Detective Baek Joong-sik, Yoo Jae-myung as the criminal Kim Guk-ho, Kim Sung-cheol as Pastor Sung Joon-woo, and Greg Hsu as Mr. Smile.

In episode 8 of No Way Out: The Roulette, the masked vigilante updates the bounty on Kim Guk-ho's head to 20 billion won (over $14.8 million) and posts his location coordinates online. The public goes berserk and rushes to the location to kill him and win the bounty. Meanwhile, Detective Baek Joong-sik reaches the location first and sees Kim Guk-ho being stabbed by his own son.

Detective Baek Joong-sik tries to calm the son and stops him from killing Guk-ho, who is a r*pist and murderer. However, around 20 people reach the location and try to kill Guk-ho. In the end, Joong-sik shoots Guk-ho and kills him to protect Guk-ho's son.

Episode 8 end credit scenes hint at a possible season renewal as Joong-sik sets out in search of the masked vigilante. However, Mr. Smile reaches the location before and leaves a video message for Joong-sik. He warns the detective to stay out of his way—as Mr. Smile sets out to hunt the masked vigilante—or he will kill Joong-sik's entire family.

No Way Out: The Roulette ending explained — Who was the person behind the masked vigilante?

No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8 starts by showing Pastor Sung Joon-woo's (Kim Sung-cheol) past. Twenty years ago, when he was a kid, his mother was s*xually assaulted by a pastor from the church he used to visit. However, the culprit got away with only a 2-year and 6-month prison sentence.

At present, in No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8, Joon-woo is the pastor of the same church and is giving a sermon. After the sermon, he is seen standing beside the same pastor who had assaulted his mother 20 years ago.

The pastor is in a wheelchair and fully paralyzed. Joon-woo whispers in his ears that he has yet to pay for his sins in this life. Later, Joon-woo is seen talking with Kim Guk-ho's son, who wants to kill his father. Guk-ho's son and wife have been subjected to public ridicule and hatred for over 13 years after Guk-ho r*ped a high school girl and murdered her.

He tells Joon-woo that he wants to step outside hell and kill his father so that his mother can live a decent life. The scene then shifts to 20 years ago, the same day when the assaulter of Joon-woo's mother was sent to prison. The same night, when he returned to the dormitory (funded by the church) where Joon-woo and his mother resided, he couldn't find his mother.

After searching for a while, he found his mother inside another pastor's bedroom. She was drugged and half-naked. Joon-woo pushes aside the pastor and tries to wake his mother, but she is too much under the drug's influence and has tears in her eyes.

An angry Joon-woo then hits the pastor's head with an iron table piece and keeps hitting him till he loses consciousness. The next day, his mother hangs herself and takes her own life. No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8 shifts back to the present, where we see an injured Guk-ho in Joon-woo's custody. Joon-woo takes the injured Guk-ho to the main church, where Guk-ho's son arrives.

Joon-woo hands over an injection to Guk-ho's son and tells him to inject it into the heart of Guk-ho—which would kill him within 5 minutes. Joon-woo uploads the picture and coordinates of Guk-ho online to make the public aware. The bounty was increased to 20 billion won (over $14.8 million), and he left the church. Several people see the video and rush to the church to kill Guk-ho and win the money.

Guk-ho's son tries to inject the syringe into his father's chest. However, Guk-ho miraculously gains back his strength and pushes him aside. They both get into a fight where Guk-ho strangles his own son. Joon-woo returns to the church after hearing screams from inside the church, and Guk-ho attacks him on the head from behind.

However, the moment Guk-ho is about to kill Joon-woo, his son gains consciousness and stabs Guk-ho with a candlestand twice. Guk-ho attacks his son again, and they get into an altercation. Meanwhile, in No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8, Detective Baek Joong-sik reaches the church after seeing the video. He stops Guk-ho's son from killing his father and handcuffs Guk-ho.

He figures out that Pastor Sung Joon-woo is the masked vigilante who went online and set a bounty on criminals and asked the public to kill these culprits who were freed from prison but had no remorse.

Around 20 men enter the church with axes, knives, saws, and other weapons to kill Guk-ho. Detective Baek Joong-sik stops them at gunpoint and tries to talk sense into them. Guk-ho uses this opportunity to grapple with his own son and is about to inject the syringe into him. Detective Baek Joong-sik shoots Guk-ho to protect the son's life. Meanwhile, Joon-woo disappears from the church.

No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8 climaxes as the police learn that Sung Joon-woo uses a fake name and alias and isn't even a real pastor. The police couldn't even find a match to his DNA, which would help identify his real identity.

Meanwhile, Joon-woo leaves a package outside Joong-sik's house. After opening the package, Joong-sik finds the bank account document which shows that 20 billion won was deposited in his name. Since Joong-sik's gun killed Guk-ho, the bounty money went to him. The episode ends with the masked man saying on a livestream, "Are you ready for round 2?"

In the end credit scene of No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8, several months later, we see Joong-sik trying to locate Joon-woo since he is the masked vigilante who wants to eradicate all criminals. He still hasn't used the money wired to him by the masked vigilante.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hsu (a mercenary) reaches a warehouse in the middle of nowhere and shoots everyone. Hours later, Joong-sik reaches the same warehouse and sees dead bodies everywhere in No Way Out: The Roulette.

He enters the warehouse and realizes that it is the hidden lair of the unmasked vigilante, Joon-woo. He sees a laptop screen turn on with the words "Press Enter." After Joong-sik hits the "enter" button, he sees that Mr. Smile has left a video message for him.

Mr. Smile warns Detective Baek Joong-sik to stay out of his way. He tells Joong-sik that his new employer wants the masked vigilante dead, so he can't have Joong-sik meddling in it. Mr. Smile also threatens to kill Joong-sik's family if he doesn't listen.

The end credit of No Way Out: The Roulette episode 8 wraps up by showing that someone is watching Joong-sik on LIVE through a laptop screen.

No Way Out: The Roulette hints at a season renewal; however, the director and the production house have not officially confirmed this yet. The limited series is available on Disney+.
