BTS member Kim Taehyung, also known as V, released three singles in 2024 during his mandatory military service. The songs were Fri(end)s, Winter Ahead (with Park Hyo-shin), and a remix of White Christmas featuring Bing Crosby.
Fri(end)s achieved global success, reaching number 65 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Global 200. Winter Ahead marked a milestone as the first jazz track by a K-pop artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was a collaboration between V and renowned singer Park Hyo-shin.
The remix of White Christmas reimagined the holiday classic written by Irving Berlin for the 1942 film Holiday Inn. V's version featured Bing Crosby's original vocals and received worldwide acclaim. On November 22, 2023, Big Hit announced through Weverse that V, alongside RM, Jimin, and Jungkook, had begun the process for their mandatory military enlistment. V officially joined the military on December 11, 2023.
Following his extended training, he was assigned to the Ssangyong Unit of the 2nd Corps on February 8, 2024. He is currently serving in the Military Police Corps as part of the Special Task Force.
