Meanwhile, Mr. Kim confesses his feelings for Kyunghee, who is married to Isak's (Sunja's late husband) older brother, who is stuck in Nagasaki. This episode highlights the poignant contrast between Sunja's battle to provide for her family's needs and safety in war-torn Japan and her younger son Mozasu's only worry about missing out on playing with his elder brother, Noa.

The latest episode of Pachinko season 2 deals with Sunja and Hansu's forbidden love and resilience

Pachinko season 2 episode 4 begins with Mr. Kim (Kim Sung-kyu) and Mozasu (Kwon Eun-seong) having a heart-to-heart conversation. Mozasu complains that Noa (his elder brother) gets all the privileges since he is the eldest of the two boys. Mr. Kim explains that Noa (Kim Kang-hoon) is the eldest man in the family and has to take on the household responsibilities as the male guardian.

Mr. Kim tells little Mozasu that as the eldest brother, there is "no room for failure," indicating the heavy burden Noa bears in the wake of Isak's passing. As the scene changes, Noa is shown strolling across the fields with Minoru (Kaito Takamura), an old classmate. The two have become friends after Noa forgave Minoru in episode 3 for stealing eggs from the former's farm.

Pachinko season 2 episode 4 then shifts to Hansu arriving at the village in his car with another guest. Sunja sees from afar and can't believe her eyes when she sees Hansu arrive with her mother as she runs to embrace her.

Later that day, Sunja's mother tells them how Hansu sent his men to search for her in Korea for months and brought her to Japan. Sunja thanks Hansu and due to her mother's pleas, invites Hansu to join them for dinner. After dinner, Sunja goes for a walk, and Hansu sees her while driving in his car. He stops the car and asks Sunja if she has ever driven a car and offers to teach her.

Sunja gives in to his request and sits in the driver's seat. Meanwhile, Kyunghee and Mr. Kim are also outside, talking about their life and cruel fate. Mr. Kim tells her that if they were in Korea, he wouldn't be allowed to even go near Kyunghee given her high status in Korea. He indirectly confesses his feelings for her, which surprises Kyunghee and she leaves immediately.

Simultaneously, in the Pachinko season 2 new episode, Hansu teaches Sunja how to drive, and as she gets the hang of it, she starts to smile and enjoy driving. Hansu looks at her and sees her smile for the first time in over a decade. In the next moment, Hansu sees a broken tree branch lying in the middle of the road. He steers the car wheel immediately to avoid an accident and the car ends up in the muddy rice field.

They both get out of the car and push it together to get it out of the mud. Once they successfully push the car outside, both Sunja and Hansu have a moment together and kiss one another. Their embrace gets disturbed by a horn from another car from afar, which brings Sunja back to reality and she regrets kissing him.

Hansu pleads with her to move on and give their relationship another chance. He tells her that everything he does has always been for her and their son, Noa. But Sunja cuts him short and reminds him that she is Isak's wife even though he is dead. Hansu tries to convince Sunja and asks:

"How much longer must you serve that grave?"

Sunja leaves immediately, leaving behind an aggrieved and helpless Hansu in the middle of the night. As soon as Sunja reaches her house, she sees her mother, Yangjin, waiting for her outside. Even though she is aware that Hansu is Noa's biological father, she tells Sunja that Noa should never learn the truth about his biological father.

Sunja assures her mother that there is nothing between her and Hansu. After hearing this, Yangjin tells her to bathe and get the mud off her. This statement in Pachinko season 2 episode 4 was a metaphor that applied to both the mud on Sunja's clothes and the reality of Noa's birth, whom she had 15 years ago with Hansu out of wedlock (season 1).

Since Hansu was already married even before he met Sunja in Korea 15 years ago, they both fell in love and got intimate. Pachinko season 2 episode 4 then shows a frustrated and angry Hansu driving far in his car and coming to a halt in front of another car coming from the opposite direction. Hansu gets out of his car and sees that it is the foreman who has been stealing from him.

After finding out that his foreman was pilfering hens, he chooses to get revenge on him. He keeps punching the foreman mindlessly, not realizing that Noa and Minoru are watching the firefly nearby. Noa hears the sound and runs towards the direction of the sound only to find Hansu beating someone in the middle of the road. Hansu then discovers that his son has been observing him the entire time.

Hansu realizes that he has been taking out his rage and frustration of being away from Sunja for all these years on his foreman. Meanwhile, Yangjin is seen helping Sunja with her bath. The scenes from Pachinko season 2 episode 4 symbolize Sunja washing away her sins and lingering feelings for Hansu while Hansu drowns in his feelings for Sunja with the blood and mud on his fists and clothes.

Pachinko season 2 episode 4 then brings us back to 1989, where an old Sunja travels to Tokyo to see her grandson, Solomon (Mozasu's son). She goes to Solomon's apartment and comes across Naomi, the girl Solomon has a crush on. Sunja invites Naomi for dinner and asks them to have food at the house because she brought along a lot of food from her house.

Old Sunja and Naomi talk about their experiences while preparing the food. While having dinner, she learns that Solomon has convinced the lady to sell her house to Abesan. Later, while leaving, Sunja advises Solomon to stay true to himself and not take advantage of anyone to achieve his goals.
