Parole Examiner Lee episode 12 recap: Is Lee successful in putting Ji Dong-man behind bars?

Episode 12 of Parole Examiner Lee starts with Eung-jun calling Myung-seob and asking him to come along. He takes him to a secluded place and after landing a few punches, he chokes Myung-seob. Feeling regretful, he apologizes and continues choking him.

He meets Ji Dong-man next who asks him to take the fall in Myung-seob's name. Dong-man believes Myung-seob has been sent abroad and needs someone to take the blame instead. He promises to find a way to let Eung-jun out on parole or a special pardon. Eung-jun recalls his conversation with Lee where he defended Ji Dong-man, claiming he was worth the trouble.

In a flashback, it is shown that Won-mi visited Lee in prison asking for advice regarding the video evidence that she has. In the present, she goes to Ji Dong-man and shows him the video, asking him to stop blocking her path unless he wants Lee to release the video since he has the original copy.

Lee calls Dong-man and asks him to negotiate for the original copy of the video. They decide to meet in person. Aware of the danger, he still goes. However, Dong-man comes with a rifle and plans to end Lee there. Hwa-ran and Seo-yun are on their way but are stopped by Dong-man's men.

Seeing himself cornered, Lee yells that he would need the pen drive, holding it up. Dong-man tells him that he can take it after killing him, to which Lee responds that he is calling out to someone else. Just then, Myung-seob drives in, hitting Eung-jun who pushes Dong-man out of the way to take the hit. Myung-seob calls him a traitor.

After choking Myung-seob, he had called Lee telling him that Myung-seob had been taken care of and to stay out of the way as he took the fall for Dong-man. Lee had come to the place where he had tied up Myung-seob. He told Myung-seob that he had conclusive evidence and would meet Dong-man that day. It would be up to Myung-seob to show up or not.

In the present, Myung-seob takes the rifle and aims at Eung-jun. Meanwhile, Hwa-ran's men fight Dong-man's men as Seo-yun runs to Lee. As Lee asks Myung-seob to stop, he points the rifle towards Lee. Elsewhere, Ji-mok and his team pull out a corpse from the sea. As Myung-seob fires, Dong-man pushes him and the bullet hits Lee's arm.

As Dong-man and Myung-seob argue, Lee receives a call from Ji-mok who tells him that they have found Jeong-gyun's corpse. Eung-jun, now conscious, asks Lee what were the conditions of Myung-seob's deal.

Myung-seob had promised to hand over conclusive evidence in return for the pen drive. Eung-jun reveals that Myung-seob had used Dong-man's hunting rifle to kill Jeong-gyun and was planning to frame him for murder.

As Myung-seob points the trigger toward Eung-jun, Seo-yun arrives and stops him. Unafraid, he asks her to shoot if she dares. Recalling what happened to her sister, she shoots Myung-seob in his stomach. Seeing this, Dong-man shoots at her but Rung-jun intervenes, taking the shot instead. Dong-man kneels and starts crying.

In this episode of Parole Examiner Lee, Myung-seob dies, and Dong-man is sent to prison for a lifetime without parole. Hwa-ran visits her old boss who is now working as a potato farmer and asks for money since there is something she desperately wants.

Ji-soon and Eun-ji start dating while Ji-mok and Seo-yun are given a promotion. Hwa-ran goes and takes over Ojung capital. Additionally, she asks Dong-hoon to relay the message to Dong-man. Su-beom is declared not guilty in the retrial and is reinstated as a correction officer.

Lee recalls his journey as he drives to a picnic with the team. Hwa-ran presents them with the news of her buying Ojung capital and starting a scholarship program as well. Won-mi stars in a new movie as a justice girl and is visited by Dong-hoon, who has become her good friend. Eung-jun also ends up in prison and Dong-man starts losing his grasp on reality.

Lee resigns as a parole examiner. In the ending scene of Parole Examiner Lee, Lee approaches a woman standing outside the prison holding a banner and introduces himself as an attorney.

Will Parole Examiner Lee have a season 2?

The producers have not signaled toward a second season for Parole Examiner Lee. However, the ending of the drama opens a possibility for the same.

In the ending scene of Parole Examiner Lee, Lee is seen taking up a seemingly unsolved case. He approaches a woman standing in the rain, holding a banner. He extends his umbrella to protect her from the rain and introduces himself as a lawyer.

This could set the premise for a second season where Lee continues his fight for justice and helping the wronged. However, nothing has been officially confirmed.
