"Through a friend of a friend, at that time, my friend was close with Kim Soohyun, so they asked if he could introduce me to the company. Kim Soohyun was happy to help and made the connection for me. That’s how, through a friend of a friend, it all happened." Park Seo-joon shared.

Park Seo-joon reflects on his Journey: Kim Soo-hyun’s key role in his debut, industry challenges, and more

In the same interview, Park Seo-joon also touched on the broader topic of his struggle during his debut and relationships among actors.

Park Seo-joon went on to describe how before that, despite signing with a major agency, he had limited opportunities as a newcomer. He described the overwhelming competition at auditions, where thousands of aspiring actors would show up for even a single role.

"At auditions, I would see so many familiar faces, but I didn’t know who they were," he explained.

In response to this, when Jung Jae-hyung asked if that was why actors don’t have many friends. Park Seo-joon agreed, noting that while there’s no direct competition between actors, the nature of the industry prevents them from developing close relationships.

"Actors need to work together to become close, but that doesn’t happen often. The friends we meet in private aren’t usually from the industry, so it’s hard to grow closer," he noted.

Park Seo-joon also candidly discussed his personal struggles, including a period of burnout following the success of Itaewon Class.

Park Seo-joon, born in 1988 and currently in his mid-30s, reflected on the challenges he faces when selecting roles at this stage in his career. He acknowledged the complexity of his age:

"It’s ambiguous. Playing younger characters doesn’t feel right, but roles in their 40s also seem too mature. It’s a tricky balance," he stated.

After the major success of Itaewon Class (2020), the actor revealed he faced a personal crisis, even contemplating retirement. However, after a period of rest, he shared that he naturally recovered from his burnout, expressing renewed enthusiasm for his work.

"I’m ready for anything now," he remarked with a smile.

Additionally, Park Seo-joon touched on the impact of his appearances in variety shows like Youn's Kitchen and Seo Jin's Kitchen, which significantly boosted his commercial appeal.

Park Seo-joon recently starred in both seasons of Netflix's Gyeongseong Creature in 2024, portraying two distinct characters. In season 1, he plays a wealthy owner of the House of Golden Treasure and the top informant in Gyeongseong.

In season 2, he takes on the role of Jang Ho-jae, a character who resembles Tae-sang.

Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun made waves in 2024 with his lead role as Baek Hyun-woo in the record-breaking drama Queen of Tears, opposite Kim Ji-won. He is also set to appear in the upcoming drama Knock-Off, scheduled for release in 2025.
