On October 27, 2024, BTS' Kim Taehyung stirred the online community as his fans accused HYBE of the lack of promotions for his album, Layover. According to fans, HYBE, BIGHIT MUSIC, and Geffen Records allegedly fell short in properly promoting and resupplying the artist's Layover vinyl globally.
Phrases like RESPECT V, TREAT TAEHYUNG FAIRLY, and BIGHIT RESPECT TAEHYUNG, among others, trended on X. As per the BTS ARMY, the lack of Layover vinyl copies in important retail shops globally allegedly impacted the idol's songs on the Billboard charts.
Fans accused the labels of ignoring their requests to restock the album vinyl. They claimed that HYBE, BIGHIT MUSIC, and Geffen Records lagged in posting about the availability of the vinyl. Reportedly, some fans resorted to purchasing digital downloads on Japanese iTunes to help boost Layover's presence on music charts.
Social media buzzed with fans lashing out at the record labels. One fan wrote on X:
"Taehyung is the only member being sabotage in bts, his CD Vinyls for layover were understock to not be count for 1 week, multiple pb , less promo in insta tiktok bts account, literaly less playlisting other idol of hybe. RESPECT V"
The BTS ARMY claimed that HYBE has been "sabotaging" the Grammy-nominated musician's solo projects. Some fans questioned the company for their alleged delayed restocking of the Layover vinyl at the end of the charting week.
"Stop sabotaging your artist! Why do y'all suddently restocking Layover Vinyl on its 2nd week of release when we were begging for restocking in pre-order period? Shame on you," a fan wrote.
"Bighit always sabotaging taehyung from the very start!! Idk why he receives the least promotion..is he not a member of BTS??" another fan wrote.
"What is bighit and geffens beef with taehyung? Am done with their bs for real..posting abt his album and vinyl release almost on the last day of tracking week and many more bs," another fan added.
Some other fans underscored how BTS' V has "sacrificed himself for the sake of the group" and the company allegedly treats him unfairly.
"Taehyung has sacrificed himself for the sake of the group, only for the company to be ungrateful & not give him fair treatment. He is the only one who doesn't even get the bare minimum." one fan commented.
"Taehyung my love it’s time to focus on yourself. That company hasn’t done any justice to your talent & your work." another fan remarked.
"This is so unfair to tae and his fans like how can a company treat their biggest money maker like trash, there's just no justification for all this sabotage and mistreatment he's going through from 10+ years," another fan added.
