The K-pop industry in 2024 has seen a wave of rookie groups reshaping the music scene with innovative concepts, smashing performances, and ambitious global outreach. Groups like ILLIT and TWS dominated the 2024 MAMA, clinching Rookie of the Year awards, while TWS’s Plot Twist music video shattered records, amassing 100 million views in just six months.

All the rookie groups that dominated 2024

1) ILLIT

Debuting on March 25, 2024, ILLIT has quickly become one of the most talked-about rookie groups of the year. Under the management of BE:LIFT Lab, ILLIT consists of five members: Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha.

Their debut single, Magnetic, from the EP SUPER REAL ME, features a mix of melodic vocals and sharp choreography, cementing their position as a group to watch.


2) BABYMONSTER

BABYMONSTER emerged as a global contender among rookie groups after their debut in April 2024. Formed by YG Entertainment, the group features seven members: Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami, Rora, and Chiquita.

Known for their powerful live vocals and impressive stage presence, the members' selection was documented via the reality series Last Evaluation, released on YouTube a year before their debut.

Their single Sheesh, became their first top-ten hit on Korea's Circle Digital Chart. The seven-member girl group released their debut studio album, Drip, on November 1, 2024. As one of the most promising rookie girl groups, BABYMONSTER is well on its way to global success.


3) UNIS

UNIS debuted in March 2024 and has already carved out a name among standout rookie idols. This eight-member girl group was formed through the idol survival show, Universe Ticket. Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee, Kotoko, Yunha, Elisia, Yoona, and Seowon are under F&F Entertainment.

Their debut lead single, Superwoman, perfectly reflects the group’s hopes to conquer the music industry. The group’s on-point performances and charming presence have earned them significant attention in the music scene.


4) NCT WISH

As part of SM Entertainment’s renowned NCT project, NCT WISH made its debut in February 2024 with the single Wish in both Japanese and Korean. The members are Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo, and Sakuya.

The sub-unit’s limitless potential aligns with SM’s vision for innovation, and NCT WISH has quickly become a leading name among rookie groups in 2024.


5) izna

Formed through the Mnet survival show I-LAND 2:N/a, izna debuted on November 25, 2024, under WakeOne Entertainment. The seven-member girl group comprises Mai, Bang Jeemin, Yoon Jiyoon, Koko, Ryu Sarang, Choi Jungeun, and Jeong Saebi.

Debuting with the first mini album, N/a, izna has quickly gained attention from music fans worldwide. izna’s journey from trainees to idols has been a part of their appeal, showcasing their perseverance and undeniable talent.


6) meovv

Debuting in September 2024, meovv is managed by The Black Label. The five-member girl group consists of Sooin, Gawon, Anna, Narin, and Ella.

meovv's debut single, Meow, introduces the new girl group with lyrics showcasing their bold attitude, impressive moves, and confidence. The track blends pop and hip-hop elements, combining melodic vocals with dynamic rap verses. Moreover, meovv recently released a double single album, TOXIC, and BODY.


7) TWS

TWS debuted in January 2024, becoming one of the fastest-rising rookie groups with their lead singles, Oh Mymy: 7s and Plot Twist. This six-member boy group—featuring Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, and Kyungmin—has quickly built a loyal fanbase.

Managed by Pledis Entertainment, TWS continues to impress with their charisma, energy, and flawless stage presence, describing their music as "boyhood pop."
