Seoul Busters episode 13 & 14 recap: Squad cracks billion-won art heist and wins big, as Min-seo faces her family’s dark past
Episode 13 of Seoul Busters begins with the Songwon Police Violent Crimes Team 2 investigating a theft at a crime scene. Initially shocked by the red liquid on the floor, they mistake it for blood, only to discover it’s melted strawberry ice cream.
Dongbang Yu-bin (Kim Dong-wook), observes the scene and visualizes the crime, deducing that the culprits are a group of school students. He suspects a middle school student living upstairs is behind the theft. Yu-bin also deduces that a nearby convenience store has been robbed. The squad is amazed at how quickly he figures things out. Yu-bin explains that solving cases feels like putting puzzle pieces together.
The team informs the elderly victim that they’ll investigate the case. As they walk away, Yu-bin notices Min-seo promising the man she will retrieve his stolen wallet. The wallet, with only 50,000 won, a transport card and his daughter’s picture, moves Min-seo to take the case seriously despite the squad’s indifference.
At home, Min-seo finds her sister cooking, which seems unusual. Teasing her about dating, Min-seo is surprised when her sister explains she’s preparing food for their father’s birthday, as she and their mother are going to visit him.
Min-seo declines the invitation, recalling painful memories from high school when classmates gossiped about her father being a wanted criminal. She also remembers how the police harassed her about his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, in episode 13 of Seoul Busters, Professor Shim Hyeon-woo (Lee Chung-joo), from the previous episode, meets Yu-bin and informs him that headquarters is reopening cold cases, he invites Yu-bin to join the investigation, which Yu-bin declines due to his current workload.
Shim then mentions a case that reminds him of Han Junho, leading Yu-bin to ponder. This follows a scene where a man is seen copying thousands of pictures of schoolgirls in uniform onto his laptop.
Next, the team is assigned a high-profile case involving the theft of a valuable mid-Joseon era painting worth billions. Yu-bin requests rewards for the squad if they successfully solve the case. They visit the victim, Kim Jung-soo, an antique art collector.
Inside the locked art collection room, the squad is fascinated by the artifacts. Mu Jung-ryeok (Park Ji-hwan) tries to mimic Yu-bin’s deduction techniques and suggests that a pigeon flies in through a small window and steals the tube containing the painting. He shares this theory with Jeong Jeong-hwan (Seo Hyun-woo), who dismisses it.
Their antics lead to a chase around the room, culminating in the breaking of a porcelain vase. Yu-bin and Jang Tan-sik (Lee Seung-woo) rush in, and Yu-bin finds a piece of fur inside the broken vase. After a comical chase to catch the fur, the team retrieves it.
Meanwhile in this episode of Seoul Busters, Min-seo’s sister visits their father while Min-seo stays behind, reminiscing about the day her father was arrested on her high school graduation day. Later, she tracks down the middle school student responsible for the earlier theft.
She confronts him and learns that he spent the money and sold the transport card to a stranger at a train station. Before letting him go, she makes him pay for the food he and his friends stole from the convenience store.
Back at the police station, Mu Jung-ryeok and Jeong-hwan are panicked about paying for the broken vase. However, Yu-bin discovers that the vase is a fake, and the fur belongs to a dog. The investigation then shifts toward Kim Jung-soo’s daughter, who owns a dog.
Jeong-hwan and Tan-sik collect dog fur in another hilarious sequence, confirming that the fur matches the sample from the vase. Under interrogation, the daughter’s husband admits to swapping the vase but denies stealing the painting.
Yu-bin assigns Tan-sik and Jeong-hwan to investigate further, discovering that a repairman visited Kim Jung-soo’s building twice. Although the repairman denies involvement, claiming ignorance of the door’s password, Yu-bin is suspicious. This is where episode 13 of Seoul Busters closes.
At the beginning of episode 14 of Seoul Busters, the team holds a meeting to discuss the ongoing case. Yu-bin, now focused on the repairman, stalks his social media and discovers he owns a drone camera. Yu-bin then declares the repairman as the culprit, explaining that while repairing the HVAC system in Kim Jung-soo’s apartment, the man noted the lock’s layout and used the drone to learn the password. He stole the painting on a second visit, disguised as a repairman,
The repairman is summoned again and confesses but claims the painting was taken from him by an art gallery director. The squad seeks help from a renowned artist who initially refuses. However, upon learning about Seo Min-seo's father, he agrees to assist them. He shares that her father often bragged about her and explains that, despite his criminal past, there are reasons for his actions.
Later, Yu-bin recounts the legend of Min-seo's father, nicknamed "Romantic Master Thief", that he had heard at the police academy. He was a master thief who targeted only the wealthiest 1% and donated most of his earnings to a children's cancer center. During their conversation, Min-seo realizes her father was arrested near her school while heading to her high school graduation. Yu-bin encourages her to follow her heart, advising her to avoid future regrets.
Then in episode 14 of Seoul Busters, Yu-bin, Min-seo, and Jung-ryeok go undercover at the art gallery. In a comedic sequence, Jung-ryeok pretends to be Japanese with the help of a translator but fails miserably. Yu-bin, under pressure, begins sweating profusely, leading Min-seo to claim he suffers from hyperhidrosis while Jung-ryeok pretends to be having a stroke. Despite the chaos, they apprehend the gallery director, who now insists he’s Japanese, prompting the translator to hilariously inform him in Japanese that he’s being arrested.
The squad later in this episode of Seoul Busters, receives rewards from the police chief, and Yu-bin turns down a transfer to headquarters, opting instead to push for rewards for his team.
In the next scene, Min-seo waits at the train station with Yu-bin to retrieve the transport card. Upon returning it to the old man, they find the daughter’s picture is missing. The old man confesses that he has wronged his daughter and wife in the past and can no longer face them. Before leaving, Min-seo suggests he call his daughter, saying she might be waiting for him to reach out.
In the final scene of episode 14 of Seoul Busters, Min-seo, overcome with emotion, remembers her childhood with her father. She cries as she travels by bus to visit him. Upon meeting, she wishes him a happy birthday, offering him a tiffin box of food. Her father, smiling warmly, thanks her and expresses his joy at her visit.
Episodes 15 and 16 of Seoul Busters will premiere on Disney+ on October 23, 2024, at 12:30 PM IST and 4 pm KST.
